hey guys, its about time to change out the pads and i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a good brand. i'm looking for something thats quiet with low dust but is strong enough for the occasional track day and wont fade or wear out quickly. also, not scoring the oem rotors would be a plus oh, and if it doesnt cost an arm or leg that would be good too. also looking for where to buy. thanks alot!

 

Hawk HPS is my brand of choice for a daily driven car.

They brake well and resist fade.
They don't dust much.
They're pretty cheap compared to the more exotic brands.
They're quiet...just like stock really.
Good for track days as long as you're not expecting racing brake pad kind of performance.

Combine them with some Motul RBF600 and SS lines and you got a nice package for not much cash (about $350 for what I got).

thats a double negative my friend. any pads worth their salt on the track are gonna dust and probably chew up the rotor more than an oem pad would. i had carbotech bobcats when i ran my 4pots and they worked pretty well and didn't dust too much.

 

yea, my main concern is a streetable pad that doesn't make alot of noise or damage the rotor but gives better stoppage power than the oems. i realize that im not gonna get race track performance, but i do want a little more grip than stock without emptying my wallet.

 

what ss lines did you get bpang1? i was lookin at machV's stuff and they have a set of red ss lines that arent too expensive. i dont really wanna fork out 300-400 bucks for the sti lines, that seems excessively expensive. also, i've heard alot of hype but do they really make that much of a difference over the stock rubber lines?

 

YES they make a difference! well in feel mostly but they don't flex like the stock line so in theory they should help pretty well

 

hmmm, well i think i'll look into getting a set then. no sense in flushing the brake system twice so i might as well do it all at once. anyone know a good set of lines that wont cost me an arm and a leg?

 

cheapest are the goodridge but they aren't coated, just bare ss. i use the agency power lines and have had two sets with great results. stoptechs are also good or the cobb or the project mu but those are a lil $$

has anyone used those before? my experiences with www.fastwrx.com have been favorable thus far and they seem to sell only quality products, but its always nice to hear it first hand. i think im probably gonna go with the Hawk HPS for pads, it looks like they should fit my needs without breakin the bank.

hey justin do you know how to change the belts, i want to do the timing, a/c and alternator belts (i think thats what they are). im not sure where i should order from either, i would rather not go dealer since they charge like a million dollars. maybe checkers has em?

 

go with the ones from machV, they look great and the price is good. lmk how hey work out so i can order a set also. on the belts i would say ask jon as he's done it and know everthing you will want to get along with it. he also has the right tool/s for the job. i'd just pony up and buy oem for the belts so your sure they work.

 

ok, i am puttin in the order for the pads and the machV SS lines. i think im gonna go with the ATE Super Blue Racing brake fluid. it has a good temp resistance and more important, better water resistance so i wont need to change it as often. http://fastwrx.com/atesupblurac.html
how much do i need for a full flush and replacement though? is one can (1 liter) gonna be enough or do i need more? also does anyone have any speed bleeders i could snag for a bit or should i just make the investment.

 

1 can should be plenty.

 

Cobb, Stoptech are my choices. Remember track pads usually=heavy dusting.
