my z06 buying experience today...

when i was looking for a car a year and a half ago i got this number for a guy that sales toyotas on maui. since he picks the cars up here up here on oahu it is cheaper for him to sell cars here. over the phone his numbers on cars were just under 3% over invoice which was like $800 more for a brand new camery. my neighbor bought from him and two of his friends. nice guy and right off the bat he comes out with the price and lays everything out. you tell him exactly what you want he he gives you the final number. but he can't do trade-ins since his is on maui. we ended up buying from waipahu toyota since my friend knows the VP there but still the maui guy was like $50 cheaper.

The dealer checks with TRW or who? Experian, Equifax? I can't remember... does a credit check. They do points and figure out what your price range is and if it's even worth their time showing you the Mercy-B or if they should be showing you the Geo Metro.

go to your bank (or a Good one to get a loan from), tell them you want to get pre-approved for a car loan, they'll run your credit, etc, ... then tell you how much $$ they will pre-approve you for.

Or apply online.
I went through peoplefirst (CapitalOne) and was approved within 1 hour. I locked in 4.39% on a 5 year new car loan. A few days later I received a blank check in the mail good for up to a certain amount toward a new car. Worked out very well for me.
