Spent the night and day poring over the logs of my dragstrip adventures last night - and the only thing I notice is that they don't make sense.

I was making wholesale changes to fuel and timing with no discernible changes in performance or logged values (maf v, idc, knock, etc.)

Sigh. Damned thing.

Anybody have a stock ECU? Maybe I'll just send mine to Shiv at Vishnu so he can hit it over the head with the "don't be a dumbass" stick (ala ECUTek reflash) and it'll be better?

Mitch,

Sorry to have been a 'tard earlier. I'm just sick of it.

The problem is I don't want to throw another $650 at this setup.

My car ran 13.69 with the stock turbo.
My car ran 13.3's with the Stage 4 ($1300)
My car runs 13.49 with the Stage 4 + TMIC + UTEC ($1500)

So I'm running about the same e.t. as I was $2800 ago and slower than I was $1500 ago. WTF?

How far off can the UTEC map be from the Unichip map? I've leaned the sucker out until the point of knocking - barely noticeable changes in performance. I've stacked timing in the map until the thing set the knock sensor off like a strobe light - no noticeable change. I've run 21psi of boost through this thing and I'm running the same mph (98mph which is only 2mph faster than I ran with the stock turbo and ~2mph less than I ran with the Unichip) as before. I'm just dumbfounded. I can't make more sweeping/wholesale changes to this thing without leaving engine internals on the ground. I've never had a car fight me like this before.

OBD-II sucks.

I can't stomach throwing another $650 into the mix to bring my total (after Stage 2 mind you!) to make it $3450.

I'm scaring myself looking at those $$$$$'s!

I know one needs the tools to do the tuning, but I just don't have the cash to buy the tools that I really need.

Maybe I just need a STi hood scoop or a Blitz Nur Spec or something. Maybe I just need to kick my car in the nuts and call it a ***** so it'll start listening to me.

I don't know.

That can be VERY helpful.

richard,

don't give up on your car yet. you do need an egt gauge or w02 to do some serious tuning. but if you are getting rid of some parts, i want dibs on the tmic.

another option. give up on the utec and sell it and get your ecu reflashed.

Dom,

No EGT yet. I'm holding out for a WB02, but I'm not sure if funds are going to allow. Good thought though.

Ed,

Thanks, Man. I'm trying to tell myself that it's not throwing good money after bad by spending $650 more on a car that hasn't rewarded me for spending $3k on it yet!

If I do get rid of the TMIC, I'll give you first shot at it.

I'm thinkin' of the Vishnu Re-flash to take the place of the UTEC. I'm starting to think I don't have the time, or the resources to purchase the right tools I need for tuning (EGT, WB02, Dyno Time).

Thumbs up ECU Reflash

If it helps any...
I've been very happy with my ECU Reflash. As long as Shiv has tuned something close to your car you would have a great fire and forget setup.
Main issue with Reflash is if you plan to mod more as you pay a reduced price for each remap (think it was $175?), and he doesn't do reflashes via mail for people that have CAI. They even had me pull my K&N filter. Silencer mod will also cause problems from what I understand.

You could always add the XEDE later if you want to get back into tuning. It works fine with stock or remapped ECU.

Hey richard,
you still running the stock turbo? Or did you put the new one back in? I can't remember with all the turbo parts flying around out here.
