but, yeah, i thought it was bad to tow awd w/o dollies at all. and with the awd sticker, they shoulda known. part of my new car syndrome was fear of getting towed & ****ing up the car. and i still removed that sticker.
sorry to hear wrxgrl... and i hope they take care of the damages.

idiot tow driver
WTF?! i just caught a tow truck driver breaking into my car before he put it on a front wheel lift truck. (neighborhood decides to repave without notice and hand off business to a wrecker company) Thank god i caught him, I was suprised to find his knowledge lacked of how to treat an AWD vehicle. He didn't know that it would **** up an AWD. I tracked down his truck number at the Henry's wrecker here in No. VA, attempted to contact the ever elusive manager who has no voice mail but runs the place. Of course I didn't reach him, then the tow driver was contacted by the guy on the phone and the ****ing idiot said he was "checking" with other drivers about towing AWD........I'm sorry, but if you are a tow driver you must know your profession and know about cars and do's and donts.....His story about "checking with other drivers about AWD" is a long way from the dumb founded look he gave me when I stoped him from towing my vehicle

Just for clarification it doesn't matter if you were parked illegaly or not. Part of the responsibility of being the tow truck driver is to know how to tow a car. And if you don't know than to get on the radio call your dispatcher and ask them. Remember that in almost all cases even if you are doing something wrong i.e. parked where you shouldn't you still have a reasonable expectation that the person dealing with you knows what they are doing. If a cop is dragging away a protestor he isn't going to drag him by the feet so that his head is grinding the pavement is he? No because that would be police brutality. You have the same protection for your car. But since you are dealing with the city and county it could take you forever to get reimbursed or they may offer to let a city mechanic repair your car. Yeah right.
Good luck

That sucks! Whether something was really damaged or not, the fact remains that they absolutely did the WRONG thing. Make them pay!

wrxgrl, that sucks about your car. I hope there isn't any damage, just have it taken to the service department and have it checked.
I'd like to hope that a vast majority of the tow drivers know how to tow an AWD car, but then again I may a bit too optimistic. Although there is an AWD sticker on our cars, I highly doubt that they notice it.

i cought the tow truck guys just in time when they were about to tow my car w/out any dollies- i warned them that its going to break something in there b/c is an AWD. One of the smart-***-collage graduate of mechanical engineer tow truck driver ask me
how do i know. At that point I wished that they move may car just an inch so I can slap them with a $4k bill of transmission replacement. To make the story short, one of them agreed to take a $50 bribe so they can buy hamburger steak plate lunch.

get your car checked out by a subaru dealer. make sure that the dealer makes a report of the damages with the repair estimate. if there are any damages, the tow company and BWS will have to work out the repair costs. if your car needed to be moved for an emergency repair, then HPD and BWS did not have to notify you immediately, but BWS is still responsible for leaving a notice on your car with contact info. i've seen this happen before (i work for a construction company). you won't be able to sue them, but you will be able to get your car repaired. make sure you insist that the repairs be done by a subaru dealer.

it doesnt matter if the car is in gear or not. im not sure if the WRX is a viscous center diff like my VR4 is...but if it was towed with 2 wheels locked and the other 2 on the ground...the VCU was VERY likely ****ed up. it only takes a couple feet to destroy it. take it in and explain what happened.
