Mauna Kea Drive
i have been planning this for some time now. i would like to take a bunch of oahu guys and do a drive up Mauna Kea on the Big Island. i'd like to see just exactly who would be willing to put their subie to the test. i have been up there 5 times in a subie.(my dads one waaayy back in a day) keep in mind that coming down can be very hard on the brakes. . .
*lowered cars= no way
*gravel tires = helpful

that might just sound like a good idea. i would have to rent a car but my parents have a timeshare on the big island that we could possibly stay at. keep me posted and maybe we can go beat on some rentals.

LOL I remember a time where my cousin's family and I went up there in a rental, it was fun. I was getting a little scared though as my cousin's dad got pretty damn close to the edge of the road near the top. :-X
Kills your engine on the way up, kills your brakes on the way down.. haha otherwise, such a nice place to take some pics ..

bumpinizzle....
me and the wife were talking about this. . . .
my ideas are to ship our cars--yes it will be expensive(somewhat)
and will make a weekend (possibly a week out of it) and stay either at the volcano inn or somewhere in kona/waikaloa.... the whole point of this is to make a grand event with awesome photo opportunities and great drives up the mountain. since the wagon has 46,000 miles its okay for us... the STi however has 18,000... we will see by then.
target date---- one weekend in july

I was going to be on the Big Island for a week and thought about it (back when I had my WRX Wagon). Check this old thread for more info:
