Making a CO2 Sprayer...

for the intercooler i don't have yet.

I have the circuit completely figured out except for the size of the capacitors I need (to determine spray length).

What it will do:

Automatically spray CO2 on your intercooler for 2 seconds (or more/less if I find necessary) on full throttle and every full throttle shift.

Will display a light when CO2 is being sprayed.
Will display a power on light when system is activated
Has a manual push button for those drag racing nights when you want to start off at the right temp.

Is anyone interested in this design for themselves??
After I make the first one, I'll gladly help anyone. Just buy me some food and the parts and we can assemble/install the system in your car.

Does anyone have any features they think a CO2 sprayer should have? Maybe I can make those too.

Dominic

Great idea! I wish I knew more about electronics, but I'll leave all of that stuff up to you brainiacs!

Maybe it should be boost dependent and not only WOT activated?

Why not have it just spray continuously when at WOT? Is the 2 second duration of the burst to conserve CO2?

Awesome!

Yeah, after a certain point you are just wasting CO2.
Besides that, think about it, how long are you in each gear?
First gear is less than 2 seconds, 2nd gear is only a few more seconds, 3rd is a bit longer BUT you are going faster and have MORE air flowing over your intercooler= less CO2 is needed.

I could make it boost dependent, but WOT is anticipating full boost anyway. Why wait until the intercooler is hot when you can keep it cool.

So do you want one or NOT?

I want one! I was going to make an manual one for the track, but an electronic one sounds so much cooler... Maybe you could get the factory I/C spray button to arm the system, then it would be stealth action. Let me know the details, I want one.

Want one, can't afford one, will watch this game from the sidelines like with so much else in life.

That's exactly what I want to use... NOS solenoid.
We're talking now!

I thought about getting the NX Ntercooleer and using CO2 with it. I had no idea you could make one yourself, activated by WOT no less. I'd really like to see how this works out for you.

Good luck!

Here's a list of components

Toggle switch (rocker/stock subaru/ flip/ aircraft whatever it doesn't matter as long as it stays on or off)
Push button-- any style that fits your car
2 Standard Automotive relays
1-4 capacitors
2 resistors
2 LED's
1 Solenoid (NOS)
1 Throttle switch (NOS)
Braided hoses, fitting and SS tubing.
NOS or CO2 bottle with shutoff valve

how are you gonna make it run off the capacitors? when at WOT have the relay kick and use one of the NO contacts to start the solenoid and one of the NC contacts to open the charging part of the system? or something along those lines? i am interested in how you are doing this, sounds like a real good plan

At WOT a NO contact closes and the capacitors discharge through a relay that shuts NO contacts to power the solenoid.
When the throttle is released NC contacts charge the capacitors. Due to the resistance of the coil in the relay the capacitors discharge time constant is a lot longer than their charge constant. Therefore they charge almost immediately and discharge over a period of a few seconds.
LED's in parallel with the solenoid tell you exactly when you're spraying.

It's pretty easy really.

still gotta get all the hardware.

The project will have to wait until I get back from my honeymoon.
Just giving you guys the heads up.

Of course if you wanna get your hands on some of the components for your own kit, feel free.

I had a NX N-tercooler, wish I would have put it on my WRX. I think a CO2 sprayer will be really helpful here.
