It is a bogus charge, you don't need recon for a loud exhaust.
What Dave said about not having any way to measure decibels is true,it's all subjective.
The Sheriff's have nothing better to do,that's all it is. Fricken harleys blow under Nimitz all the time, you wanna talk about loud, thats loud!!!
It all goes back to the image thing, you drive a car thats immediately labeled as a "racer",if its loud that just makes it worse for you!!
I would fight it if my car was just running an exhaust, and the rest was stock!!
Now if I got pulled over in my car, then everything that gets thrown at me is probably deserved, seeing as "street legal" is a very fine line with me!!

yes but the law says if it's audible within 30ft/yds whatever. i'm not saying the law isn't bogus, but if you're rockin an rsr then you know you gonna eat the ticket sooner or later. and just for the record, i would happily take the ticket to drive yo car fran.....beast

you're lucky he didn't cite you for your sti wing like me, lol. i have a recon permit and this cop still gave me a illegal recon because of my cf trunk. he also tried to look for more areas to give me a ticket because according to him my car is "highly modified". he eventually gave up because he can't identify my other highly modified parts (hint:none).
i politely took the ticket and fought it in court via a written letter. judge dismissed the ticket. all i'm saying is, you are innocent until proven otherwise. if you think you have been wrongly accused, then fight it. if you know(and admit) that you are in the wrong, then pay it.

its not like i was trying to weasel my way out of anything. i wasnt racing, i wasnt revving. i was going home after work. gotta admit the state has some very vague laws. offficers themselves often confuse which items are recon or not.

if you want to get technical anything louder then OEM is consider grounds for failure on safety check and recon but thats up to the officer or inspector to determine what is to loud and what isnt. hawaii doesnt have a db meter system.

qtp exhaust cutout anyone? btw had an sti pull in a few months ago. we were gonna pass it until we heard an exhaust leak, which fails. we looked under the car, and lo and behold there was an electric cutout! its cool for stealth but it doesnt pass inspection yo. itll even state it behind your s.i. receipt, so be careful!

idk why you guys do things you know are illegal and then try to get out of it. you did the crime, you know you did the crime. pony up and pay the piper. we all know that as soon as you mod your car it's only a matter of time before you get pulled over. imo you need to stop wasting the courts time and taxpayer dollars and just pay what you owe. it's not like it was a bogus charge.

Never got a ticket... this is why french law are stupid.
You will get a ticket if you have cellphone in hand but can make crazy noise.
