list your methods of removing stripped nuts or bolts..

Heres my situation. I have a stripped 14mm nut on my bumper beam and I already tried the "Gator Grip" and the Craftsman "Bolt our Remover" and without luck failed!! My last resort will be to just hacksaw the nut and stud off but dont want too because of the tight space and constant back and forth action..Ive also thought of dremmeling it off but not sure what type of materal for the dremmel that I have to use, or pounding in a one size smaller socket but will cause alot of noise for my neighborhood . Ive also research and seen on IWSTI and some people preffered to heat up the nut/ bolt with a torch for a while.. Dont want to dab into that(for now). SoiI was wondering what are your methods?? Any advice will be more than welcomed before I proceed again!! :RockOn - not mine: Forgot to mention, any methods that will create any noise that will disturb the neighbors!!

P.S. Sorry for the horrible pic but that was the only angle I could get a shot off..Nut is well rounded off thanks to the Craftsman Bolt Out Remover ..

TIA,
walter

I had the same problem with my downpipe and it took me a few hours to get it off... Torching it helps a lot.. But what I did is take a pair of vice-grips (if theres enough room) clip those suckers on there and hit them with a hammer... or squeeze them (while clamped) and turn. Hope this helps!

Perhaps torch then vice grips...if it comes to that i guess

Hey Jebb, I even tried the vice grip & hammer action and still no luck!! I'm still sketchy though on the torch thing.. How long did you heat yours up before taking a crack at them??

thanks

Depends on the torch.... Just work it a little at a time. Try a minute then turn, then two, etc. It will come off.... just be patient and don't hurt anything else in the process! That's what takes more time and $

I used the dremel and the right angle adapter to get off two of my downpipe bolts...

hammer and chisel. it makes a lot of noise though, but if you do it right you can remove the nut with no damage to the stud.

this always works for me, use a monkey wrench aka pipe wrench. if you have a tight spot then find a smaller one. this always works for me no matter how messed up the bolt or nut is.

Normally, I just call Ty when I round a nut like that

Maybe a bottle full of PB Blaster and Astroglide?

You can try something like this:

http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00952166000P

I had to use it get a nut off my swaybar bracket. You might need to pound it in with a hammer to get it locked, then slowly loosen it. Don't forget PBblaster.

Right now, I just took a break from it..The putting one size smaller socket didnt work for me cause it is now totally rounded off so I just dremmeled it with a cut off wheel..Space is tight so do I just make a slit in the nut deep enough so I can chisel it off?? Or do i make two slits to cut off a portion of the nut and chisel it off?? Because what i did was dremmel a slit deep enough for me to chisel it off.. Fridgin nut is warped out from me chiseling it.. Oh well, back to it when Im well rested..

cut down the middle with A dremel

if you got steady hands... maybe some cold PB then wear gloves over it to keep you hands nice and cool.

+10 for soaking with astroglide before starting.
