Kelly Blue Book?

So I'm kinda kicking myself for getting rid of my WRX and as result, I've been checking craigslist to see if anything interesting comes up. I've taken a liking to 2006ish STi's but noticed that the asking prices are averaging about $26k. So then I decide to check Kelly Blue Book and they say 06's should be about $17k. My question is, are the natives small kine cray cray with their asking prices or is Kelly Blue Book straight up hating?

Depends on how many miles. 26k is pretty steep but it really shouldn't be as low as 17k.

I know a certain 05 sti that's for sale lol

I have noticed since i've lived here, the price of cars are insane. I get the whole import thing, but heres my 2 cents. When i lived in Oki all my buddies had FD's, R32's - R33's and the works, prices where reasonable. Here SR 240sx with cheap *** no name mods 6500.... come on. Then again i could ship my 71 240z out, and make a killer its worth over 14k state side i can only imagine what it would go for here :P

A few months ago on 05 STi here (NorCal) on KBB was around 24k, I just checked again and same car/location was around 19k.

I think people are just overpricing Subaru's way too much. No doubt they are great cars with a great following, but 26k for a 06 STI is ridiculous. I purchased my 2012 WRX for 22k, i couldn't imagine spending 4k more for a older car with more mileage.

Even 20.5 for a STI in excellent shape seems steep lol. Plus, we all know KBB is good for starting prices. I dont think ive ever sold a car at KBB price.

first question

1. are you buying from a dealer?

2. are you looking at kbb trade/private/retail for the pricing?

the wrx/sti/evo on kbb has gained value over the last few years. yes its not normal but it is what it is. the problem is that they are hard to find esp a good one. you will be paying to play again. Kbb is a guide line also they cannot see the car your getting nor can they see if the major services have been done or not done. but in todays market you will be paying a higher price for these cars and people are buying them!

You're right. My OP was using the KBB app on my phone. Now that I used the actual website, it's saying $21k. But still, really??? I mean, I want one but not that bad.

I don't think I'm limiting myself to strictly private sales but I'm not scouring craigs at the moment. You bring up a good point with the whole pay to play deal and it seems that of the few that are available, they are well aware of it.

Then again, someone was selling a particular RSTi a little while back that is what I really wanted.

I was looking around the island for used vehicles myself. Ppl overpricing by crazy amounts. Though I cannot blame them. I've sold 2 cars on craigslist and 1 motorcycle and charged more just because everyone else does it. They sold without an issue. I know for a fact if I was in the mainland I would've never gotten away with that.
