I'm looking to move from DC to Oahu in <2 yrs, any thoughts?
I'm a 30 year old white guy, my g/f is 24 and asian. I have 7 years of corporate experience, as an analyst/project manager. I'm sick of the fast paced, rat race in the DC area!
I checked housing costs, they seem to be the same as DC, maybe even a tad cheaper. Gas only seems to be about $.10/gallon more. Traffic in DC is some of the worst in the country, so that's no concern. I'm also used to a VERY diverse crowd, it seems that no one race is the majority in the DC area. I'm used to taking 1-1.5 hours to go 20 miles. I'm originally from Cape Cod, where I lived until I was 18. So, I'm somewhat used to a tourism-based island economy, but of course not as much as HI.
I'm also an avid jetskier, so this is very important to me. Anyway, if anyone has any thoughts, please post em. And hello from nasioc

Well my wife and I just moved from the DC area to here in NOV 04. One thing is traffic isnt as bad as DC. People are way more laid back. DC is a madhouse but yeah let me know what you want to know....

welcome. traffic is laid back and slow during the rush hours. depending where you'd live, 20 miles can take 1.5 hours.
don't let it bother you though. well worth the move

Well, currently I'm supporting my g/f as she finishes school. Once she gets her nursing degree, we'll be earning double. So, a small paycut is ok.
To the other poster, I own a 2002 WRX and a 2005 STi
