I think I found my problem
For any of y'all who have experience with M16's/M4's, you know how they teach you to 'offset' the gas rings on the bolt. See how the rings are in-line?
Here's the cylinder wall.

Nuttin'. Over on Nasioc, though, they're telling me that I definitely need to re-hone the cylinders and have to break the block apart in order to get the pistons back in.

The post above yours makes no sense..But what ever is one of the lands or what ever they are called cracked the oil ring is the bottom one right and above that it looks like a crack. Actually that being the problem is not that bad and then again not too good..But at least you know what it is now.

I'm a pretty firm believer in the semi-closed deck. I know that there are a tremendous amount of EJ engines that are making overwhelming power, but I have never heard of a cracked sleeve. Now, maybe there's a chance that sleeves flexing or something which stresses another part of the engine, like the pistons. Seems like whatever flex there is should be easily overcome with the added stability of those supports.
