i-Speed 2.5 Sti Block + EJ20 Heads Dyno'd!
Blue Graph is a 2002 WRX with a 2004 STi 2.5 short block with STi shortblock stock internals:
Helix up pipe
Samco IC hoses
NGK Platinum 7’s
I-Speed USA tuned ECUtek (which was the same map for the RED graph)
3” turbo back exhaust
VF30
Running 16psi

253WHP / 242WT
Not bad for 16psi on a VF30. I expected a bit more of a torque hump and a more severe power fall off on the top...
Don't know if it's worth the trouble of upgrading (unless you do some work on the heads) - but the STi block sure seems like a decent way to go if you pop the stock bottom half.
The 400+ WHP that TurboXS has put down on the dyno without NOS on their "monster engine" preliminary testing has me hot and bothered right now though.

I actually expected more out of an extra .5l displacement...

Remember, your flow rates have just gone up dramatically. The stock turbo is going to be too small now. Not to mention the additional backpressure in the exhaust.
Your talking an additional 25% displacement.
Upgrade the turbo and I bet you'll be really suprised.
40+HP isn't a bad gain with only some extra displacement.

I can say that we were very surprised to get the power we did with next to no tuning, minor mods and low boost.
What really amazed us was driving this set-up has power everywhere. Virtually no Lag and a solid usable power band.
We will, of course, start modding and upping boost to see how much more we can get

I can't wait to hear some revised numbers once you guys turn the wick up!
Are you going to be any tuning with this combo before you switch the heads over?
I know the guys on NASIOC are clamoring for you to put the Crawford heads on - but I think it would benefit the "everyman" more if you were to try and eke out some more ponies in your current configuration (with the stock US EJ20 heads)...
Mahalo,
Richard...

uh oh, .... Richard got busted!! lol!
I agree with Richard about tweaking the ECUtek to see how 'much' you can get out of the stock wrx heads, ...... and maybe even taking an upgrade path (to the heads) that most people could afford, ... now that would be nice!
I'm rather pleased with the results, I mean that's with the same map as the stock block, without extra tuning. And I imagined the tq gains would be really felt, along with spooling the vf30 sooo much better.
if the guys from i-speed ever want to come to Hawaii, .... I know we'll be sure to show you guys a good time!!
