i agree 100% with you Brent...This is enough for me to know why people in Hawaii are failing the driving tests. All to save 5 or 6 mpg?!?!? That's all I (or anyone) needs are more dumb ***** tailgating. I already can't stand it in traffic, but for someone to mooch off me when i'm just chillin seems a bit overboard to me.

As many of you guys may or may not be aware, MANY hypermilers do not tailgate or draft. They actually discourage this practice. There are millions of other techniques employed, and electronics that you can purchase to help with FE (fuel efficiency). It seems that KHON2 decided to really focus on THIS one manuever, which i feel is unfortunate, because in the hypermiling community, I'd say less than 10% actually employ this practice. I've been doing this for a solid 3.5 months now, and it took time for me to change the way i drove. It is not easy to do in traffic, driving slow, accelerating slow and smooth, etc. You don't pass too many people, and some that pass you may get upset, as you are either driving too slow, or what-have-you. But that's why there are 2 lanes off traffic. The right lane is for hypers and slow drivers, and the left-lane is for others.

to me the only thing drafting on public roads is good for is completely ruining your hood and front bumper with all the road crap coming up from the car in front of yous tires!! i dont even draft and my hood has so many chips in it im thinking about breaking out the dip and having a snack!!!

Not that it saves me a ton of money, but I have been an active member of this technique. I wanna see how good I can do. It has proved to be quite effective. My wrx used to get me 18mpg, now i can get 24-25, or 33% improvement. My Yarii gets 35-38 mpg.
It is definitely not the most exciting way to drive, but if you factor over a 15 gallon tank at $4.50/gal., my savings has earned me $22 per 15 gal. fillup.
I could use that for lots of things. And hey, it's kinda fun. I'm a member of gassavers.org
Anybody else out there?

You know, I really don't get affected much by the gas prices going up unless the gas prices go absolutely crazy to like what they gotta pay in Europe or Japan.
I bought this car because I like driving "fun-like" and I knew I'd have to pay to play the game. Really, if I cared much I would be driving a much more fuel efficient car.

I don't hit the brakes that much. I keep a big gap in front of me.
I use these measures when I drive my truck because it gets such bad mileage.
When I drive my Suby, it's not about miles-per-gallon, but rather SMILES-PER-MILE.

Found out from someone who visited England, that its like 1.16 pounds per liter, which after you do the conversion to dollars and liters to gallons, is roughly like $10 per gallon which is craaaaaazy
