HPD pulled me over 10 p.m.
last night- intersection of Kamakee/Kapiolani
i was turning left onto Kapiolani from Kamakee street-
it appears that (according to a source) that a new law may be passed regarding pedestrians-
basically i got pulled over for "almost running over a pedestrian"- when in fact the whole time i knew the pedestrian was there- but i "split" inbetween 2 pedestrians... i guess that's a no no. (possibly but neglegence of hawaii law)
after handing over my lic, reg, ins... and literally deciding what i had to give up this week for my newly aquired fine... the cop graciously makes me fill out a information card and sign it- and then i get treated to a nice little lecture for about 5 minutes on how we drivers should be more careful- (getting a lectured tag team by both cops)
the whole time i was apologetic, and humble- i'm just glad i never got cited for other things- either way i'm just happy right now-
i'll be driving like miss daisy for a couple of days.... hopefully i don't get pulled over for going too slow

no cell phone law yet... i was thinking about that last night cuz the wife was giving me static for calling mike while i was driving---- i was like if they ban that... then they gotta ban eating and playing with our radios, and all the other types of ICE.

Yes guys there is another law that will go into effect other than the cell phone law (which I love).
Basically, it's to protect pedestrians. I believe that now you cannot drive through a crosswalk when there are pedestrians in it on YOUR side of the street. So like on Kapiolani you're not able to go until the pedestrians get out of your side of the street. Hoppie or Da Tall Guy can I get clarification?
Anyways...I think they're both good ones to start to control all the baboose drivers out here.

Not only tourists, lottsa ppl just step into the crosswalk like they are invincible to the cars. Legally pedestrians have the right-of-way but let me tell you in reality, THE CAR has the right-of-way .

the cops were pretty cool... even through all the mumble jumble, and all the theories of whether the law should be passed or not-- one thing she said stuck with me.... "what's the rush? just let the people clear the entire crosswalk..."
so either way i'm for the law to be passed- at the same token i think some lights should be recalibrated beacuse of this- maybe in the high pedestrian areas-
