Really... i was wondering where people get real race fuel here. i always thought they'd have to make it themselves.

Is Ron's still in business? They're off of Nimitz.

My $.02.

-What slows your car down? Pulled timing or too much fuel.

-What normally causes those two conditions? Knock makes a stock ECU divert to a lower ignition advance multiplier, ie it defaults to a lesser aggressive map.
I can't think of a condition where the stock ECU forces the mixture to be TOO rich. Many aftermarket ECU's/piggybacks come with pig rich fuel maps, but that's an existing condition not a reflexive condition like pulled timing.

-What effects do racegas have on an engine? More resistance to pre-ignition. Burns hotter.

I have never heard of any cases of misfire due to the use of race gas. I can't think of any reason at all as to why race gas would slow any car down.

Man it feels good to actually be talking about real motorsport type stuff on HIIC again.

No, but you can use this chart to make 93...but I would run 94. ( This chart sucks I'm looking for the one from 76 right now. But the #'s are the same.)

Not if we use HIIC specifics...like sea level and humidity!!!

according to the chart above, i had 94 to 95 octane with 100/91 oct mix and ran a 13.1 @ 104 mph.

on 91 **** i ran a 13.7 @ 99 mph. both with same 1.8 60ft. at 2200 ft. elevation.

that's my proof.

Haven't

seen this addressed, but you can't put race gas in and expect the ECU to magically sense the difference immediately. You need to reset the ECU or do the Vishnu trick to take advantage of the most aggressive timing possible. I run race gas at the track when I run a bit higher boost, but I also (accidently) have seen 23+ lbs of boost (8-10 times) when I had my hoses wrong with a Stage 4 on pump gas. No knock activity. None. A cool morning and my FMIC probably saved the day.

San,

From my understanding, the ECU moves towards agressive only if it's not seen any knock nor misfire and vice versa. If it's already on a 16 IAM map, it will be prepared for any higher octane fuel.

Agreed

Pat, but if you're not logging constantly, you don't know if you've seen knock and what current timing is. If you reset the ECU, you've "erased" any knock and you're starting fresh. For early STIs and even some WRXs, an ECU reset or Vishnu reset can't hurt.
