How much to paint my car?
How much do you think it will cost to paint my car and also do some minor rust repair on island?
Damn it! The last one should say "more than" not "more that"

all depends on who you go to... and how much bodywork that needs to be done... remember now "you get! what you paid for" dont settle for something thats cheap..... cheap price, cheap work.

My friend got his Infiniti G20 done at Maaco (don't slap me, it was his choice). He got a NICE paint job a new hood and some minor body work for ~$2500. I'd guess $2000 for some nice paint. You can get it cheaper, but I wouldn't.

paint!!!
I have a paint shop, and if your looking to do a complete using a good quality paint, you're going to be $600 dollars(at least) in materials alone. Maaco does a decent job spraying, but their prep work sucks, and that is where you make or break a paint job. If you want a good complete that will last, and look nice, you should expect to pay $3-4k for a car the size of the wrx, unless you can do the prep yourself. Don't settle for a cheap paint job. It will look decent for the first month, and then you'll start to see the flaws. Especially on island weather.

paint??
You must be talking about a 240sx??? If it were me, I'd go to a local paint store, buy some 600 grit sand paper, and start sanding on the car. If you apply yourself you could do the whole car in a weekend. Just make sure you wet sand and do it in circular motions. Then, I'd take it to maaco, and have them do your body work and spray your car. If you sand your existing paint, you won't need to primer, unless you get down to bare metal. Maaco will normally hit your car with a 200 grit sand paper just to rough up the finish enough so the paint will stick. If they do this you see the sand marks in the paint afterward. But if you do the prep, they'll probably spray your car for around $400. If they're like the maacos around here, they use cheap dupont paint, but if your not planing on keeping the car long, that shouldn't matter. Good luck

Dude...a good paintjob costs anywhere from $1500- $2500, depending on what you want, the type of paint, what needs to be done and who does it. I got lucky nd paid $1200 for my paintjob, but that was through a friend of a friend, and even then, I had to wait months to get it done when it fit his schedule. Not only that, the job wasn't that great, but you get what you pay for.
The guy that painted my winf and sideskirts and stuff mentiuoned that he would do my car again (if I wanted) for about $1500, but that was without any major bodywork or damage repair. THe costs for good bodywork will make the cost of a paintjob a little higher, depending on what is needed to be done and where the rust, damage, etc. is located.
If you don't really care, follow Liberty's suggestion or find someone that can paint.

For near OEM quality we used to send our local Lexus customers to a particular body shop that will remain unnamed. They would charge $4-5k for a complete repaint (same color, changing color would be a bit more) but the job came out GREAT.
It's NOT cheap to completely re-paint a car and get a good job!
If you won't a 5 footer paint job (GREAT when you're standing 5 feet away, but you can't stand it if you're any closer) then you could get away for ~$1k or so...

Well the stock paint isn't that bad, it's still glossy. I'm more worried about the minor rust spots. I want to keep the car the stock white color, I just think it needs one coat of paint. So do I still have to sand the whole car???

It's always better to paint the whole car at once... Blending to match is a *****.

I want them to paint the whole car. But my question is......
If I want to have the car painted the same color that it already is. Do they have to sand the whole car down? The paint isn't that bad. I thought that they could paint over the paint with one coat and put some clear coat on it.

You have to sand any areas that are going to get painted no matter what. Chances are you'll have to seal the areas and obviously prime them just to make sure you won't have any "reaction" between the old paint and the new...

I feel for ya. Hard to spend more than the car is worth to make it LOOK NICER, not DRIVE FASTER.
