Haha me and my crew was going to do this hike but it started to rain heavy when we got to the beginning of the actual trail. We was going to do the Tripler ridge to Bowman and down Stairways to Heaven since we know the guard there only on the weekends. From all the hikes I think Bowman has the best view! STH is awsome at night I got alot of pictures on my FB of all my hikes.

I did Bowman to STH with over 20lbs and that was killers cause we all ran out of water by the time we reach to STH. We always try to do STH atleast once a month. Once you do STH for the first time you always wonder why it should just be open to the public and you will always want to go back for more, also get choke tourist chicks and locals who go up the almost 4,000 stairs.

When I did Bowman 2 months ago I wanted to leave bear traps to cach pigs since I saw pig tracks when I went up. Tobad I never have that claw device seiiit.

Ted,

as long as I can bring my camera with me and that I won't die then I should be ok. Any chance of us doing a kid friendly hike?

How old are the kids?? Kamehame ridge is the easiest hike I've done. Easier than diamond head and way better views imo. Mariner's ridge is pretty easy too, seen some kids around 11 doing that hike.

jon, u can bring your camera but it might weigh you down. remember, you also need to carry at least 2-3 liters of water and food. also, there is a big chance that the trail is wet and muddy and it could be raining at any given moment. i normally pack my cellphone in a ziplock bag just to make sure that moisture will not go in. i dunno how comfortable you are with securing your gear.

as for kid friendly hikes, like the others said, there's alot of them. it just depends if your kids are comfortable with hiking (dirt, mud, sweat and hunger might drive them nuts). but you can start with diamond head, makapuu lighthouse, then aiea loop trail, and possibly mariner's ridge. heck, i've seen 5 year olds in some intermediate hikes and they can outpace the adults.
