HIIC Hike Club - Part 7 - Hawaii Loa Ridge
HIIC Hike Club - Part 7 - Hawaii Loa Ridge
When: August 24, Sunday @ 0800
Meet: To be announced
Okay, it took 7 major hikes before we got to this ridge. I know I've been talking about this hike for a long time and that's because this is my favorite hike out of all the trails that I've been into. Do not miss this hike!
Let me get something out first. the first 80% of this trail is novice to intermediate and the last 20% is more intermediate. There will be 4-point climbing but most of these areas have ropes to hold on to. But if you have survived at least one or more of our hikes, you shouldn't have any problems with this one.
We will stop at the bottom of the final 20% of the climb. I will let you decide if you want to rest here and wait for those who will hike to the top.
What to Expect:
The first 25% of the trail travels along a relatively wide, hill-like terrain over a path which ranges from dry, sandy dirt to sturdy rock. The hike is 3.5 miles one way. If we start on time, we should be done by 1 pm. Please make sure that you bring lunch and enough water. A good pair of hiking shoes is a MUST.
The ridge's rollercoastering is not too bad and there are no drastic hand-over-hand climbs during the first 80% of the trail. While there aren't sharp-angled ascents during this section, there are a few short climbs/descents which will give novices a run for their money (e.g. heavy breathing, pounding heartbeats).

yep! finally....i always look forward to going back to this hike...i need to know early who's going since parking is very limited, that's the reason why we are leaving early. i do have a back-up plan just in just in case the turnout is big, so please let me know as soon as possible...

...don't know if i'm able to do this....jess will most likely go to this on his own...recently, i was diagnosed with a drop foot/foot drop (unable to lift foot from the ankle towards the body)...left one to be exact...and hasn't been able to walk normal....doctors still trying to figure out what caused it or how long it'll be like this...oh well...i can probably deal with those short hikes but not this long hike with a foot like this....we'll see....

is everyone cool if we move this to August 31? It will be our pre-Labor Day Hike...if not, we can leave the date as it is.
