HIIC HIKE CLUB - PART 5
This is our 5th hike meet! Okay you young peeps, and not so young peeps (since you guys are posting “OLD” threads!), let’s see what you can do…this trail is privately owned and managed by Kama’aina Kids. There will be a nominal fee per person to get in (it was $5). The entrance will be a dusty dirt road (about 1.5 miles). I need to get a head count early to make reservations...
SUNSET/CAMP TIMBERLINE TRAIL (MAKAKILO RIDGE)
WHEN: SUNDAY, JULY 27, 2008 **********RESCHEDULED************
WHERE: MEET UP AT KAPOLEI STARBUCKS AT 0815
Trail Details:
A small, novice trail above Makakilo behind secluded Camp Timberline provides a basic self-guided informational tour to trees featured in Hawaii as well as a great Waianae Coast view at the end.
This relatively unknown trail provides the best solution for the novice hiker who wants to be surrounded by nature, take a basic lesson in Oahu botany, not get muddy, hike in a relatively human-free area, and end up with a gorgeous vista. These characteristics are actually very difficult to find altogether on a single Oahu trail.
This trail is neither openly published trail nor is it public. Its short length and faraway, secluded location makes it easy for most trail books to overlook.
What to Expect:
The trail is easy to traverse, has absolutely no exposed sections or 4-point climbs, and the ascents are short and gentle. The path, when not obvious, is indicated by small wooden blocks painted blue affixed to trees along the way. Botanical features are pointed out by posted informational guides near certain trees. The trail terminus is a wide-open Nanakuli vista spanning Palehua (mauka, on the right) to the coast (makai, on the left) and the Waianae and Lualualei Valleys in the distance.
Dangers/Other Considerations:
This is not a dangerous trail: amply marked and well-defined path. This is great for novice hikers! But, as with all hiking, beware of normal trail hazards.

Ted, any idea how long this hike is? I looked at the link you provided, but I didn't see any info relating to the length of the trail. I'm just wondering if my daughter (the one that was at the School Supply Drive) could handle this.
