HIIC Hike Club Part 2
As promised, here's the second hike event. Bring your camera as this will be a scenic hike...
Where: Waahila Ridge Trail (Awaawaloa / Mt. Olympus), Saint Louis Heights
When: June 7, 2008, Saturday at 0830
How to get there:
The Waahila Ridge State Recreation Area is a wooded state park in St. Louis Heights located on Ruth Place. To reach the park take Waialae Ave to St. Louis Drive, turn uphill, head nearly to the top where you'll take a right turn onto Peter Street and a left turn onto Ruth Place.
Description: The first section of the trail is wide and well-maintained. However, this section ends at the Kolowalu Trail junction and the ungraded ridgeline begins. The ridge trail steepens significantly as you near the summit. Expect some exposed climbing over eroded sections of steep ridgeline as you make your final climb.
But don't worry, we will only climb to the end of the maintained/official Na Ala Hele trail (which is at the junction with the Kolowalu Trail down to Manoa).
I will be posting up the meet place as we get nearer...see you guys there!

Oh, before I forget, here are some quick reminders:
Some things to consider when hiking:
-Wear appropriate clothing. Shorts or jogging pants and bring an extra shirt just in case. Weather is very unpredictable in the mountains.
-Hiking shoes is recommended. It can get muddy and slippery in some areas.
-Bring enough water for everyone and hydrate as needed. You can get dehydrated pretty quickly without you knowing it.
-Bring some quick energy bars or light snacks. We will be resting as needed.
-Please respect the natural environment. Take all of your rubbish with you. Be courteous to other hikers and other park users. Follow all park rules.
There is ample parking at the park, but if we can carpool, then that's much better.

^^^yeah, i know...but we have to do it early enough so we can snag the parking stalls at the park as this is a popular hiking and mountain biking spot. it is also much cooler in the morning and believe me, will make a big difference.

No excuses Dom! If the wife and I can do the meet and then go to Bobs Big Boys after with some of the other members and then do the hike in the morning you sure as hell can. I'm 31 and can still hang with or even out do most of you young bucks. Ted will tell you I was right on his son at the hike on that last hill before the road at the end.

Wow, that's a really cool hike. Too bad it's not the complete hike to the top of mount olympus, I did that a long time ago and the view is killer. If I was in better shape one day i'll join up with you guys...
