HELP...need new tires!
Hey guys, thanks to our uhm spirited driving this weekend I noticed that my front tires are ready to go! For some stupid reason the prior owner bought only 2 replacement tires for the car, rotated them to the rear and then left the stock ones on the front. As such, I now have a pair of 70% tread left, Toyo Proxes 4s on the rears and the crap OEM tires on the front.
I just got a quote of $288 from Rex Tires for the fronts (yes 288 for 2 tires) and really don't feel like paying that much!
Here's my options:
1. Order the 2 tires from the mainland and pay $78 per tire plus shipping. $156 with free shipping from www.edgeracing.com plus $40 total for mount and balance from Eurosport...$196 total (cheaper than the quote).
2. Buy Russ' OEm Wheels with Kumho V700s (50% tread left). Only problem is that I don't need 4 more wheels LOL!
Lemme know what you think!

Car Info: 2004 Subaru STI/WRX Silver of course
Try TireRack they usually have better deals than anybody on island. I bought mine at FireStone a little cheaper than TireRack only because they were on sale which there sale price equaled to TireRack's normal price.

True...but what if I want to match the Proxes 4s that I have on the rears? That should be OK right? Roughly the same traction and such. Right now my Diffs are probably hurting from having good traction tires on the rears and crap traction tires on the fronts.
Will probably change my diff fluids and tranny fluids after this.

I think as long as you don't have a huge difference between the tread left on the tires, all will be ok. The overall diameter is the concern. Taking a new tire with tires that are nearly bald could be pretty bad, but I think you'll be alright if your "better" tires have as much tread left as you say they do.
I'd still rather do all 4 at the same time, though. Just a personal preference I guess.

Blake, my suggestion is to have 2 set of tires. It's always a good idea to run a street set and a track set. Certainly, Russ' stocks w/ V700's would be ideal w/ budget in mind. If not, go for broke and run some Toyo RA 1's on the street and V700 for the track, like me.
LaR BTW, V700 have been back order for sometime now at Tire Rack. I've been waiting for 2 months now.
