Help with headers

I recently installed some headers with slip fit joints and i that its leaking would i have to take it off then weld it or could they be welded while its on the car? also anyone have experience with these kinds of headers? any info would be greatly appreciated. thank you very much! i also forgot to note that i think its leaking because im not boosting as much as i did before the headers at 3500rpm it hits about .5bar and it sounds like it is. can anyone suggest where i can get this fixed?

yeah, sounds like a pre-turbo leak. its best to take it off and weld it, that way everything is covered. try going to rick at ESH, on king st. he can hook you up with exhaust repairs. he's my go to guy for anything that requires welding, until i can do it on my own. call 946-7110

Rick Perry. Haha, I haven't seen him in such a long time. He's one of our good friends.

thanks for the help joejoe, i guess ill probably take it down to them but they would have to weld it when its on the car then take it off to finish up what they couldnt get then put it back on again right? i cant just take it off and then have them weld it otherwise it might not fit right?

welding it installed might not cover all angles because of the limited space you have available. you just want to fix it once and only once. but just bring the car to him, i'm pretty sure he can work his magic with his tinkerbell wand. lol

weld while installed on the car = harder

weld while off the car = easier

which one did you tell him?

If it's at the slip joint... how badly is it leaking? If it's a little meaning you can only feel a small amount of air escaping and have to be pretty close then it doesn't really affect things much. If it's a lot then you may want to think about getting it welded.

The bad thing about it being welded is that there is more change of the header cracking causing an even bigger problem.

do you have a FMI? how much boost do you normally see at the RPM stated? What turbo are you using?

I'd say you possibly have a hose that is leaking for the turbo if you have a FMI.

It should be easier to weld off the car BUT there is no way to know exactly where on the slip joint it needs to sit in order to fit your car. They could spot weld the header at certain areas to hold it then take it off the car (expensive for you since they have no idea how to and possibly more exhaust leaks due to this).

the guy on the phone said its going to be near impossible because they cant weld all of the pipes because they are so close together then i asked if there was anything else they could do and he said no. i was trying to ask him if they could weld some of it on the car then the rest of it off(so i wouldnt have too bad issues with fitment) but seems like they did not want to by his answers.

I have no front mount and stock turbo im usually boosting about 1 bar with heavy throttle at 3500rpm.
thanks again for the help guys!

still sounds like a "boost leak" for lack of a better term

have you taken off the intercooler and checked the connections under the intercooler? Make sure you have tight bolts and that your gaskets are there sealing the connection? Also, your throttle body hose needs to be held tight with two clamps one at the throttle body and the other holding the intercooler. Do you have a BOV? If so have you tried swapping it back to the stop BPV?
