Ok, I already talked to Josh earlier but having issues with my suby...........the ignition is locked up, and I can't start my car!!! the whole turn the steering wheel and pressing on the brake thing doesnt work. I bought this car in march too (from 5 star!). Will any of the subaru dealerships do warranty work to fix my ignition???? Right now my car is making a nice driveway ornament!

that happens to me sometimes but i don't think it's the exact same problem, like when i have my turbo timer on and i turn the steering wheel while the engine is still running with the key out. i just wiggle my steering wheel left and right and the key eventually turns.

I believe that it's different from the intentional "locking" of the steering wheel.
3 cars ago, I had a Benz 300D and experienced the same problem. The wiggling the wheel whilst turning the key didn't yield any results. I had my mechanic check it out and he said something about a pin in the ignition where the key goes in breaking and thus rendering it broken.
The solution for me was to get a new assembly altogether.
This is my guess as the symptoms Mike is experiencing resemble my own before. If anybody else can chime in w/more knowledge, go for it.
Good luck fixing your problem, Mike. This is no way to start off the new year.

Mike if your car is still in warranty...DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING!
Call Subaru and have them tow it in for you. If the jiggling and such didn't work that means the actual ignition switch thingie (the thing you put your key in) is farked up. I had this happen on one of my old cars.
They'll most likely throw in a new one and this is definitely something that they can't complain about performance parts messing it up.

i had a key cylinder problem in my 94 toyota truck. it started when i had homedepot copy me a key. it was a crappy copy as it wouldnt alwas turn without a bit of jigling. eventually the original key stopped working as well. it was mostly a problem when my steering wheel would lock. my mom got stuck somewhere so ended up buying a new key cylinder for like a 100 bux from toyota. its pretty amazing how simple those things slide out haha
