i already emailed all on the list below...plz help out as well!!

Hawaii's pending exhaust law!! please read

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

URGENT LEGISLATIVE ALERT

Hawaii Bill to Ban Most Aftermarket Exhaust Systems

A bill (H.B. 1447) to ban vehicles equipped with an exhaust system “that has been modified to make more noise or sound than the vehicle made when manufactured” has been introduced in Hawaii. H.B. 1447 would allow law enforcement officers to seize and impound a vehicle upon making a subjective determination that the vehicle was in violation.

In some states, noise limits for modified exhaust systems are established by a SEMA model bill and applicable to an easy to administer test standard. The SEMA model provides for the testing of vehicle exhaust noise to a standard adopted by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) with an established noise limit of 95-decibels (SAE J1169). Under the SAE standard, a sound meter is placed 20 inches from the exhaust outlet at a 45 degree angle and the engine is revved to three quarters of maximum rated horsepower. The highest decibel reading is then recorded.

We Urge You to Call or E-mail Members of the Hawaii House of Representatives (List Below) Immediately to Oppose H.B. 1447 and Request their Support for a 95-decibel Limit Under SAE J1169

H.B. 1447 adopts a 95-decibel standard, but does not include reference to the SAE J1169 noise-testing procedure. Simply referencing the 95-decibel language does not provide a process through vehicle owners can prove compliance with the law.

H.B. 1447 would allow law enforcement officers to seize and impound a vehicle when an officer made a subjective determination that a vehicle was in violation.

H.B. 1447 does not require administration of a test before the vehicle is seized and impounded.

H.B. 1447 ignores the fact that aftermarket exhaust systems are designed to make vehicles run more efficiently without increasing emissions.

H.B. 1447 would make it impossible for hobbyists to replace factory exhaust systems with more durable, better performing options.
DON’T DELAY! Please contact members of the Hawaii House of Representatives immediately by phone or e-mail to request their opposition to H.B. 1447 and their support for a 95-decibel limit under SAE J1169.

Please e-mail a copy of your letter to stevem@sema.org. Thank you for your assistance.

only if they have aftermarket pipes, some of them are so loud stock that you almost can't tell if they are aftermarket or not.

This law went into effect a few months ago here in Washington. Luckily they don't enforce it.

I'm sure the cops will be real happy about this...

Just about every Mustang, Camaro, Dodge HO, etc that these cops drive have aftermarket exhausts...some are so loud they rattle my windows...

Ya, they will have a hard time justifying your ticket after pulling you over when their car is waaaay louder than your supposedly offensive sounding vehicle...

This is a joke...

Now, about Harley's...will they get away with this due to the fact that they come stock with straight pipes? This is a load of B.S. Stock or not, if they are going to try and enforce such a ludicrous law as this, they need to standardize it and make "ALL" vehicles conform to this 95db sound level...
