i got about, 54k on it and i havent personally changed the fuel filter. ive only put about 8k on the car myself though. it could be time, i dont know how well the other guy kept up on maintenance. if anyone has a stock airbox they aren't using let me know, i'll give it a shot.

i read your post jon and it did seem very informative, i would reccomend it to others. i think it is possible that it is the intake but im not convinced that it is the culprit, or at least the sole culprit. ive drivin the car with the intake (all the mods actually) for almost a year now and it hasnt been an issue until recently. if you look at #8 on the list, that problem is very similar to what i have experienced. every time i reset the CEL it goes away and wont come back the first drive, but always does a couple minutes after starting it up and driving the second time, just like the last couple of meets. i did do some work on the exhaust manifold and exhaust recently and its possible i gave the sensor a bump. so im gonna take a look at that first. not really sure what it will look like if its bad but i'll see if its loose or the wires or messed up. i did try a bottle of octane booster around that time too, which said it was safe for all sensors and it had a fuel system cleaner, which is mostly why i bought it. any thoughts on that?

Hey Mike, I think I've got my stock airbox at my work place if you want to borrow it for a bit. I live and work in Waipahu, but we might be able to meet up some time tomorrow. Let me check at work tomorrow and I'll let you know. PM me back your cell number and I'll call you. You only need the airbox right..... or do you want the resonator (snorkus) also?

Thanks, Brandon

pmed you Bran.

ok so i checked both 02 sensors and whoever placed the front one should be shot. at any rate, short of removing them completely they look fine, undamaged and securely connected and the wires look good. i double checked all the hoses in the engine bay and they are good. but on another note, i only get about 210-225 miles to the tank like the guy with the 02 problem. anything else that could be killin my mileage? or is this common milage for the car. it averages between 18 and 20 and i do drive a bit fast

that's what I've always gotten from my car. Others have achieved higher but that means not driving it and only using it for very short distances. don't worry about the mileage. sounds like you found the problem?

Why don't you just pull the code to give you a clue to the problem?

Its up there san. P0171, its a long post so i reccommend reading the whole thing if you havent cause i've tried alot of stuff. I havent found the problem yet jon. im gonna try checkin the fuel filter maybe tonight but thats a bit of a pain in the a**. i think i will just get a new one and change it anyway, that couldnt hurt. im gonna try the stock airbox too as soon as i can get my hands on one. if its not either of those then im pretty sure it would have to be the front 02 sensor.

the fuel filter is in the engine bay. it is a black canister on the drivers side. if its silver its been replaced once already. what your talking about would be the fuel pump filter being a PITA. at any rate the best would be trying the stock airbox... I think I have a friend with one.

yea i know i was talkin about the one in the engine bay, i just didnt want to do it last night. and yea the canister is silver so i guess its been changed? maybe ill do it today, im not sure where the connector for the fuel pump relay is so i can relieve the fuel pressure. the manual just has crappy line drawings that dont really help find it. im probably gonna change it just so i can discount it as an issue, plus it never really hurts to have a clean filter. im hopin brandon calls about the airbox but if you have access to one jon im off work and would like to do it asap. let me know. thaks

So i was doin some reading this morning and i came accross an article that caught my attention. aparently when under partial throttle or low rpm/cruising situations the engine relies on the oxygen sensor for its air/fuel measurements. however under higher/full throttle or accelleration the engine defaults to the preset basemaps in the ECU to control the injectors. my lean condition CEL only comes on during these cruising speeds or at low rpm, never hard accelleration. Now I'm not an expert on the EJ20, but to me that sounds like there is a good chance that it is the oxygen sensor and not the intake thats causing the problem, especially since it seems to be getting worse and more frequent. I have had the AEM intake for as long as i have owned the car and havent had this light before, so why would it start now? and why wouldnt the stage 2 help correct that issue. to me it sounds like a sensor. what do you guys think?

thanks all!

well thanks to Brandon and Lorenzo's generosity i was able to get a stock airbox installed and it seems to have fixed the issue. not only is the CEL not coming on, but by the readings of my air/fuel gauge the car is running much more stable mixtures. it is also running right in the middle between rich and lean. Best of all it even pulls noticably stronger and smoother. I ordered an airbox from NASIOC and hopefully it will be here in a few days. thanks to everyone who helped out, you are a great crowd stay tuned for my next project; stage 4!!!!:RockOn - not mine: .....i kid.
