Are you sure the o-ring/seal came off with the last filter? It's never happened to me, but I've seen it happen to someone else at the Navy Auto Hobby Shop once - the old filter o-ring/seal was still stuck to the block, he didn't notice, put the new filter on, and now it's trying to seal against the old o-ring rather than against the block. That doesn't work out too well.

Pat

PS - I, too, go for NAPA Gold.

As Pat said, if you "double gasket" then one WILL come off later and cause a severe oil leak.

logic tells me that i have to drain the oil again before i change filter... is there any possible way that i can be a lazy a$$ and just change the filter???

I used to use Fram, never had any trouble. Although I have heard that their reputation is severly tarnished recently...

i have used fram for years and have never had a problem....is it possible you overtighten it? all you need to do is put a bead of oil around the seal and hand tighten only and nothing over that

I just had a new fram gasket fail about 50 miles after oil change. No leaks at all then I come out to go to lunch and find a puddle of oil under my car.
