maybe take a photo of the back of your foglight covers while you are holding them. Also a piece of paper saying "this is my personal property". If you see it on another car, it ain't yours. I effing hate thievery as well. If it is a fellow subbie owner, that makes me sick. I hope you get him, and this all turns out well for you.

what you could also do in addition to etching or scribing your VIN into the part would be to put your finger print on it... the way you do this is spray a little spot of paint on the back or somewhere that only you would know about... Then wait till it gets tacky and then roll your finger on it. Your finger print (unless they know about it) will just look like a spot of paint and they won't take a second look at it. You on the other hand will have a definitive way to identify your item. CSI this!!!

take them back and call it a day. It seems like the ball isnt in your court in this case. Seems like its way too much trouble to prove they are yours if you decide to pursue this any further.

Most people who steal car parts are at least smart enough to know to repaint them. My guess is that this person bought them or got them from a friend not knowing. Since you already bought new ones I would just move on.
Confronting them can open the door to other problems and if the police do get involved they are not going to like the fact that you decided to handle it on your own.
So put your VIN on your new ones.

Hey man, I feel bad for what has happened to you. I know how you feel 'cause my Honda was stolen back in '06 and I'm probably seeing it everyday in pieces on every other Honda I see. I don't know about you but I'm a strong believer that thieves will get their day sooner or later. It's like the saying "WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND". I understand how you must feel about retaliating, it is hard to move on. I felt the same way back in '06 but I hope my words will help you out.
