Exhaust Leak???

So I just installed an Invidia catted DP, which is a divorced piece on my '13 WRX and flashed my ECU with Cobb's OTS stage 2 map. I've heard cars with really obvious exhaust leaks which sounds really airy but after my install I noticed that my car is making a high pitched BOV type of sound... you know the HEEE, HEEE sound?! I don't know if going with a divorced DP creates any new/different sounds in comparison to a stock DP. Any and all suggestions are appreciated!

gonna have to come up with more info than that. is it constant or only when you get on the throttle? can you take a vid of it so we can hear the sound? i had the same pipe on MY12 WRX and did not have any problems so you probably have a leak at the turbo. if you aren't really careful when you tighten it down it's easy to get a leak. did you change out the gasket? anyway more info or bring it to the meet tonight and i'm sure someone can help you figure it out.

Agreed.... i also had this issue and realized my new exhaust gasket had a hairline crack in it, and was making a weird humming/whistle sound. new gasket all fixed.

It might just be the downpipe, I thought mine had a leak but its just that the downpipe is a thinner metal and it resonates sound... Did you check to see what type of flange u have? If it is the doughnut one then guaranteed u got a leak

Sorry about the lack in detail. I only hear it when I get on the throttle and it usually happens at around 4k rpm's.
I did remove the inter cooler and the bpv to install the down pipe. After reinstalling everything I turned the car on and played with the throttle... everything sounded good. I changed the turbo/dp gasket and installed a flat 3" gasket for the dp/mid pipe connection.
The sound only seems to occurs under load. It's actually not that audible but I like to drive around with the radio off so that's why I heard it. I'll swing by the meat tonight. Hopefully someone will be able to lend an ear. Let me know if more info is needed.

Sounds to me like you're just hearing your wastegate opening. It's more noticeable with a DP, at least my experience in my car. My AEM CAI made my stock BPV "sound" like a BOV from inside too.

just a thought, check the turbo to IC coupler and make sure the clamp is on securely.

yea that whistle is probably just your turbo and you're not used to hearing it. try going to youtube and listen to anything with a turbo and no cats. if that's the same sound you hear then welcome to owning an uncorked turbo car. if it's truly high pitched like a whistle or it sounds like the typical bov "pssssssshhh" then you probably have a leak.

as u know what area i live in ewa. hmu with a pm if you wanna swing by for me to hear. im betting its your turbo. cause u say under a load and at 4k. your turbos spooling and its causes the noise. if it were an exhaust leak it would more likely be constant and more of an unnattractive sound, like a muffle.

Alright so after a bunch of research, I've come to the conclusion that the sound is attributed to the less restrictive DP which allows for the turbo spool to now be heard. Thanks everyone for your help trying to diagnosis what I initially thought was a problem. I installed the DP RIGHT before work last night and had to go back into work this morning again so I didn't have much time to research before posting. Thank goodness I posted on here instead of NABISCO, huh!? I'll try to make it out to tonight's meat but being that I worked 16 of the last 24 hours, I might not be awake. Thanks again for the help!

Glad you like the downpipe. Im thinking of getting the same one since I already have a Invidia N1 catback. What kind of power gains did you see?

I drive the silver 2012 sedan btw from ewa.

I can't answer the power question with a definitive numerical value as I haven't dyno'd my car but as far as my butt dyno goes it feels noticeably better than when I went stage 1 with my Cobb CBE. The throttle response feels a lot better and it feels like I have better bottom end as well as a generally better overall power curve.
If you wanna go for a test ride let me know. I'm 90% sure I'll be at this week's meat seeing that it's here in Ewa so if you wanna stop by...
