Exhaust?
So I just got home and on my way here I got pulled over and the po po said my exhaust was too loud. Also, I have to have a recon permit? Oh yeah, and my front license plate wasn't mounted....double no-no. Any of you guys had this problem and found a way to get out of it? I'm not looking forward to forking out $142 bucks for some bogus stuff.

did you get a recon ticket?? if so it has to say exactly what on your vehicle needs recon if it doesnt that will get you off also contest it in court and state that the officer doesnt have a decible reader so there is no way to tell exactly how loud you are and if they say you could be heard from thirty feet away ask if they busted out a tape measure to see exactly how far away the officer was........then download a spec sheet from a model that is fully set up from the factory like a wr1 or euro spec model and tell them that that is what you own and dont need a recon permit they really dont have a way to check that type of thing and that my friend is what the court calls reasonable doubt and as we all know you are innocent until PROVEN guilty good luck

^^^unfortunately, the cops are not required to have a decibel meter here in hawaii to tag you. you can try that defense but it is the cops discretion if your muffler is too loud or not. anything other than stock is fair game. getting a recon will definitely be a better defense or bring it to stock and document it. not sure if you have any other mods, but an after market exhaust is not a recon item anymore. but if you have other recon items like wheels or suspension mods, then it becomes one.

You're screwed on the license plate...that you'll have to pay for.
Get your car Recon'ed and if it passes you can send a copy of the recon paperwork in with the ticket and a letter stating that the exhaust passed recon and apologize for not recon'ing ahead of time.
That's how I got out of my ticket for that in Waikiki.
Otherwise, that's pretty much it for you...man up and pay the other ticket.

you asking the original poster or anyone who's posted?
Anyhow,
I've decided to go the quiet route...(lots of ways to go btw...this is just what I did)
If you want a quiet/performance oriented exhaust...I would highly recommend the following TBE combo:
Catted Cobb downpipe
Greddy Evo2 catback
Even with a header, this combo is only slightly louder than stock...
This combo is very stealthy and I have good numbers on the dyno to show that it performs. Prior to the tune, I was expecting the worst...I was thinking the catted dp would kill me...it didn't...

Brent, those aftermarket high flow cats are much better than the stock ones. Congrats on the numbers.
As for recon, you dun recon for exhaust but the HPD will tell you otherwise. If your car has other mods, it's better to get a recon. Dress appropriately and talk nicely to those ppl. Most of them are cool guys.
