Thx guys. Yea. I've had a stock version 8 ej207 for 4 years now. Loved it. I had an issue where it ran lean and my egts got too high. I haven't torn it down to inspect yet but looks like a burnt the valves on the #2 and #4 cyl. Zero compression but ran weak but fine and didn't burn oil or collant problems. I didn't want the long down time and all with hoping a head job is all it needs, so I bought this v9 to just swap it out.

It the motor checks out as being all good I'll post who I got it from. They run $3,000-$5,000. I got it for the lower end of that.

Can't believe how expensive these 7 year old junkyard motors are! LoL...

I'm trying to decide whether I'm gonna part out my v8 or just do a head job, or.......2.2 stoker crank, forged pistons, bore, ARP studs, h-rods, and a big stock location twin scroll. ~

any chance you got this off of a guy in montreal? if so its the same guy i got my v7 drivetrain from. hes a good seller.

probably would have been cheaper to just do a valve / head job if its just the valves...
i burnt a set up around 100K miles

Thx for the post. Yea, I've been hearing burnt valves are a common problem. I still might do the head job and rebuild the v8 now that I'm not in a rush!

Where did you take your heads for inspection/valve job? I usually go to head hunters in Kalihi, but I don't know if they can fix 'em or if I need to order parts, like new valves for them to install.

If you don't mind me asking what had to be changed/purchased to fix your heads? I'm guessing the valve seat is pressed in? So, they might have to change the seat, or just regrind it. As far as the valves go, I have been reading about people upgrading to a better material valve so there is less chance of them melting again. Wonder if you went this route and if so, if you got the parts yourself, or your head shop did.

Yea. From what I know this guy has a shop in Montreal and Florida. Mine shipped from Florida.

Time for me to get back to wrenching!

servco subaru takes their heads to Genuine auto in Kailua... i would recommend them as well....pretty quick turn around as well.... after he inspects it...he can give you a parts list of what to get to make the machining labor cheaper... otherwise if he orders the part, youll be paying a little more of course... also bring the cams and caps...

As all of my projects go.....

Decided that while the motor is out, what better time to paint the engine compartment!

.....and while I'm at it, decided to remove all the ABS crap (I don't care for anti skid brakes). Gonna mount an adjustable proportional valve that can be adjusted while driving.

Starting to feel like the engine swap was that easy part of this job. LoL
