Does anyone know a source of Aluminum Stock?
I wanted to use a metal lathe to make some stuff; but I have no idea where to get the aluminum stock I need. I tried checking Kilgo's, but the closest thing they have to aluminum stock are 72" "aluminum rods"...
I need something more thick, maybe like 5" long and 3" wide. It doesn't have to be cylindrical, but i'm not sure if the lathe can take square pieces. Also, stainless steel would also work.
Does anyone know where I can buy this stuff? Any metalworkers here?
Unless .. Do I have to order from the mainland?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Dan

try royal metals, universal manufacturers, sun industries, to name a few. if they don't have it in stock, then they'll bring it in for you. also try calling some fabricating shops, they may have what you are looking for and even make it for you.

For raw stock, try Macsteel (used to be Ferro Union and Jorgensen, they are a large metal supplier, ask for Danny or Rosie, 682-3000) or Royal Metals (specializes a little more in non-ferrous stock).
For a macine shop, try Universal (ask for Greg, 845-5971) or Honomach (ask for Craig, 682-5729). Both of these shops are great and may have scrap pieces they can sell you.

Wow, I never had any idea so many sources of metal existed on this island
Thanks for all the replies and info, I really appreciate it!
NOLEFXRW, thanks for the offer, but aluminum is not that expensive, I should be able to go grab something from one of the mentioned sources..
Actually, all I wanted to do was try and make a simple shift **** for my car; i'm still in school, and we have a metal lathe that is collecting dust. I just have to find out for sure if it can handle the size of stock that I want to be using. Hopefully by tomorrow i'll take a better look at it and then start searching for those metal shops.
