Daytime running lights

Is there a way to make it so that my 03' WRX will no longer have daytime running lights? It would seem to me that there is a little switch somewhere in the e-brake that kicks them on, as I can just barely raise the e-brake and they go off... Also, what year is it mandatory for new cars to have that feature I thought I heard like 05'...

Apologies in advance if this is a stupid ? or was answered previously numerous times... Haven't been around here too long...

Also, I've got some new headlights I need to install but I've got absolutely no tools for splicing wires... I have a good printout for which wires get connected to the stock wires, but I would like to be able to throw the stock lights back in for the yearly safety inspec fairly easily... If anyone could lend a hand or direct me to a decent shop to get the job done I'd appreciate it...Thanks!

Peace,
Eric

Below your boost controller cover, there is a connection for the DRL's. Alot of us have taken it off but then again, it would be very safe to have since alot of people underestimate the acceleration of a WRX.

Link to ScoobyMods.com article on disabling Daytime Running Lights. Haven't tried this DRL mod myself, but would like to install an inconspicuous little switch so that I can turn 'em on or off.

Thanks for the quick response on the lights... Will check it out tomorrow when I wake up from my mid-shift...

and if you don't want to deal with tools and have an average size hand you can reach up under the glove box and disconnect the green harness. (or was it brown.) it was like a 10 pin connector. it is the only one you can see right above the kickpannel.
