The catch can will condense and trap oil and contaminants found in the crankcase vapor. This oily/acidic "shmag" would have otherwise been re-circulated into the air intake and the intake manifold of your WRX. This is where you get the oily residue and/or puddles of oil you see in your intake tube, turbo compressor housing, intercooler, and throttle body...

Ingesting this "shmag" is a good way to burn it off without letting it vent to the atmosphere (emissions) as well as assisting in crankpase pressure relief (which is absolutely crucial to ring sealing and proper turbo oil drain). Trapping the oil that would normally get sent back through the motor keeps the air/fuel charge from getting diluted and keeps a more stable combustion event in the motor as well.

Plus it's shiny.

The Cusco can't be "opened". I don't believe there is any baffling in there, and consequently it hasn't caught ANY oil for me (or nothing that is viewable on the sight glass).

Wes has the Greddy - and even though I don't think he packed it with anything it has been emptied twice.

Not sure exactly what to think, but at least there's something shiny under my hood.

What'd you do with your windshield wiper fluid tank?

I want one of those too, but I went to look under my hood, and could not find another place to put it. Where did you relocate your windshield washer reservoir?

It's a nice new 2 story home for a family of spiders in my friend's garage.

I never used the windshield "squirters" anyway. I hate the residue it leaves on the glass and the paint - so it was just dead weight anyway...
