Crazy Dom's at it again.
Hey everyone!
Just wanted to give you an update on the Impreza.
Stupid me thought that I should teach my girlfriend (now ex gf) to drive a stick. There couldn't be a harder car to learn on I'm sure. Lightened flywheel, 6 puck copper disk and a DOUBLE DIAPHRAM Extreme Pressure Plate make for a grabby experience... not mention over 80lbs of clutch pedal pressure.
Well anyway, she wasn't doing too good. After 6 stalls in the toll booth and a lot of pissed off drivers, she got it going. 1st gear, 2nd gear, 3rd gear to almost 80 ( I told her to punch it a little because she was taking too long in between gears) then....
you guessed it.... 2nd gear.... she was trying for fourth... yanked it into 2nd. Stupid *****.
so anyway, pistons and valves get intimate at 9000 rpm.
Not as bad as you'd think though.
shiney spots are dents in the pistons.
Valves took some damage too.
So what, are you asking, did I put in instead?
That's right. A 1993 EJ22T with oil squirters, forged internals and everything. bolted up to a fresh set of SOHC 2.5 heads equiped with TWE springs, retainers and COBB cams...
Can you say Deuce Deuce?
I think this setup should give me some real horsepower.
but if it doesn't, I can always put this back under the hood:
So anyway, the engine is in and running.
The verdict?
Well there are two significant things that I miss. Torque and Torque.
going from a 2.5L with 10:1 compression to a 2.2L with 7.9:1 Compression is pretty depressing when it comes to torque. Lag sucks too. I've become way too familiar with lag.
Power delivery.... holy ****. When the turbo finally decides to feed the engine, stand the **** by. This **** comes on strong and hard. All the way to 7k RPM (from 4k) Right now I'm only running 10lbs of boost. I've run 14psi a couple times and it's pretty fun. This engine combo should be good for 18-20 daily. However, I'm waiting on the BOV for my intercooler setup. So I'm going easy on it.
BOV should be here tomorrow. Then the intercooler goes on. The 15th it's off to Connecticut for a dyno run. I'll post some **** up when I get it done.
Thanks for reading!

Got a divorce right after I left HAwaii.
Shouldn't have pushed her to drive my car. Broke up with her for many different reasons.
I had COBB cams on the car when I left hawaii. Remember how one was bent?

well at least you look happy! (btw my wife has driven my STi once)
and whats that addy for that site you were "promoting" several months back? (i'm lazy to search)
the way you're describing the lag reminds me of some older skyline videos i have.... slow 1-4, 5 up to 8 yahoo! gotta do some serious vids- out of curiosity how aggressive is the cam? (i think thats the right terminology) i know my old 302(v8) had a pretty radical cam (almost like a harley at idle )

I think the website Dom was promoting was www.pocketpunani.com.
Pretty awesome writeup, Dom. Always the innovator.
Hey, since she's your ex I think I can ask...did you punch her in the throat after she ****ed your engine?

Doms,
Watch gonna do with your old block? I think Mario was looking for a phase I crank.
If you decide to sell to it and if Mario doesn't want it, I'm interested in picking it up . . . that's if you can wait until I finish my deployment.

Got the intercooler installed yesterday.
HOLY ***** THAT CAR IS FAST!!
First time I jumped on it it pinned me to the seat. I wasn't expecting that at all. WOW what a ride. That was at 16psi. I'm honestly scared to go higher because I don't want to break anything.
