Compression Test HELP

I have been having a Big cloud of smoke come out of my Exhaust on Start up's. It's doesn't happen all the time/ It mostly happens in the morning. I also discovered that my oil has been going down like crazy. I just did an Oil Change 1 week ago and it is also at the L line.

I've been doing to research on this and lots of guys on Nasico are saying to do a Compression test.

Can anyone help me? I don't have the tool but I know alittle bit about it.

Thank you
Lorenzo

Lo go to the Auto Hobby shops on any base and they have the equipment to do it. They will even help you if you need it. Talk to Mario at the Shafter Auto Hobby center, he can help.

Yes, Sorry it started after I install my new block with JE piston (P/N280089)

The Combustion Chamber for the 2.0L Heads were bored out to fit the 2.5L block.
Not to sure if this could be a problem.

Block was Brand New 2010 STI Block with Brand New JE Pistons.

A valve stem seal went. Check which plug has oil on it and that's where it is.

I'm gonna have to agree with joe on that one. Seems most likely because the valve stem seals have never been replaced. I have a compression tester btw, but you would want to do a leakdown test.

I checked cylinder bore and ring gap on all 4 pistons. You babied that thing for quite a while and broke it in properly. It shouldnt be your rings.

The leak down will help you identify if it's bottom or top end, but generally unlike most 4 bangers, you have to pull the engine no matter what.
So while the leak down is helpful to assess if the engine has to come out on like a honda or evo, it doesn't really matter on the suby.

If it's cold start issues sounds like valve seals to me as well, and yes you would burn oil.

Also rings normally trip a CEL misfire, so if you don't have that, that's good.
This is unrelated, but was that a brand new factory block that you just swapped the pistons on, or did you have a used block honed to size?

Reid,

It was brand new straight from the factory.
