Why didn't you post this in the performance section? I'm glad I search the 'new posts' ... You've inspired me to go through with a similar idea I once had.

what did you use for the plastic trim piece in the fender wall? and have you tried plugging that other hole? I think it would help keep the air pressure up around your filter and keep cold air from coming in and going into your fender.

just some thoughts.... very nice job on the aesthetics.

Always seem to post in the "Home" section (Hawaii)

...You can find both pieces (it's pretty cool...cause they come as a set) at Home Depot in the Dryer Vent Section...for about $18.

The inside piece (the one in the engine bay) actually fits in the external (Fog Light Cover) piece...I already threw out the wrapper or else I would have the part #.

I looked around at all the plumbing and hardware stores...finally came up with this.

Here is a thought though...and this would work great! Go to a boat store (one with lots of marine parts) and buy a 4" or 5" circular deck-plate. It looks the same except, you can screw the front part in or out when you want and if you are going through some torrential rain, just plug it up...

I did a cold air mod on my Toyota Tundra in Alaska...and used the deckplate...worked awesome.

Thought about plugging up the front hole...probably will when I find a piece of plastic laying around that I can fit it to...you are probably right about the turbulence though...next project...

If anyone lives in a hot area...this mod works great to help cool the inside of the engine when you are moving...

Anyone else going to try this?

Thanks everyone...

There are several things I would do over, if I did this again...

1. If I used the same circular intake piece, I would position it about 1" lower. There is a support beam behind the cover...instead of centering the piece, I should have positioned it a bit lower. I had to modify the pipe piece behind the cover for it to fit...

2. Possibly used that Marine Grade 4" deckplate so I could screw the cover on and off just in case I decided to seal it up.

3. If I was patient enough, I would have purchased a passenger side fog light cover and just modified the hole a bit...it looks to have a much smoother transition than my circular piece...it would guide the air in much better. I was bidding on a set off Ebay, only to have the guy back out because of the all familiar new dumb excuse that Ebay has graciously created....

"The Seller has cancelled the auction due to missing or damaged pieces"...this is too much of a convenient out for sellers...if buyers backout, they get slammed...

I'll be up for that...

when I do this again... I'll take some pictures.....then write something up...

Unfortunately, time is always my enemy...kids are growing up and need all of my extra time...6 and 9yo's...you know how that goes...it's a good thing, don't get me wrong...just exhausting...

You know...I've been thinking about doing something like this but to mount the intake portion in my lower front grill in front of the radiator...then shoot the outlet at my turbo to get some better cooling for that.

I dunno, it's just pipe dreams.

Thumbs up

Wow you made it work and it looks great too! Those first few pictures on the original post made me skeptical, but you went the extra mile with this. Bump for you!

Thanks for the link...

Scoobsport98. (Chris Farley fan I see....livin in a VAN, DOWN BY THE RIVER!)...haha, me too...

Ya, I was just going to plug it up but as cheap as that piece is, I might as well just order it...I guess it fits in all 02+ Imprezas/WRX/STI...

Thanks again,

BPang1...I'll meet you one of these days...I do appreciate your time and effort into bringing the Hawaii Club together...along with others like Gdogg and some...sounds like a good idea you have...I need to get me a heat shield and radiator shroud now...
