yeah, the "no trade in/discount" thing pisses me off. They are going to make so much money off the APs for other cars (mazda, mitsubishi, nissan) they should reward the Subaru community that made them who they are!!

Crap!! I just got my hands on an AP about a month ago and because i don't read anything anymore I didn't even know they were making another version. I think I'll call the sh**he** who sold me the older version and let him know what i think.

I sent them an e-mail today
"Hey, I was wondering something. Since the Subaru community helped you grow to the point you are at now (with being able to expand to other cars) what was the reasoning for not offering a trade-in program for previous AP buyers? With a price tag as high as these things have, that is screwing over a major portion of the community that helped you guys grow so much. I love your products and the innovative things you guys come up with, but I, as well as others in the Subaru community are very displeased with this announcement of no trade-in/discount program.
Any info you could provide would be awesome. Thanks"

I just called one of the techs today...
and he said more information will be released at the SEMA show in a few weeks...
Man, that thing looks like an MP3 player...sizewise as well...
If people are going to upgrade, I'm sure others, like myself, will be in line to buy a well taken care of AP at a discounted, trade in type of price...
I wouldn't worry yourselves about making some money off your used AP...
Trade-In's usually suck anyhow...they like discount you 50% to upgrade...I'm in line for an 04 STI AP...

i can only see a few upgrades from v1 to v2 but for functionality i see it as being the same.
some upgrades i think that may be included are:
-usb hook up to computer
-color screen
-able to view current map ie. if you are using a real time map you will see it and not the base map that is loaded only
-faster map upload time to ecu (although might not be possible because obviously you would have to upgrade the ecu to do this)
personally i think i can live without these creature comforts mainly cause the basic fuctionability is still there and that is to act as a map carrier.

Matt,
We are sorry that we cannot offer a trade-in or discount program for the new AccessPORT. We researched at great length how we could do something like this and still stay in business but unfortunately we did not see a way to do so. All the success we've enjoyed, with the help of the Subaru community that we've supported exclusively since 1999, has gone into developing new products for Subaru vehicles. This includes the new AccessPORT. We are exploring other markets now but that's due more in part to cumulative success over the past 7 years as we've carefully grown the business, not simply from one product.
As we've stated we'll continue to support the original AccessPORT and we don't feel its defective in any way. Its been out now for 2 years and as with all consumer electronics, the life cycle on it was at the end and something newer will come out. We do not however have any plans to force obsoletion to MAKE you buy a new one.
Best regards,
Trey Cobb.
