Cleaning the Rims

Cleaned the car after it stopped raining today but after I was finished with the rims there were black spots from the brakes on the rims. Couldnt scrub them off and I also used some rims cleaner spray but no luck doesn't work. Any suggestions?

the black spots that you have on your wheels are due to brake dust being embedded into your clear coat due to heat...etc.

if it just got there then you could try to use liquid Dawn (dish washing soup) to take it off with something none abrassive.

If it's been there a while then the only way to get rid of it is to have the rim refinished.. unfortunately I have this same problem and tried many different avenues to try to get rid of this none attractive blemish on my wheels but no luck for me.

good luck!

Jon

What wheel cleaner did you use? Brake dust is a surface contaminant, try using a clay bar with a quick detailer as your lubricant. If you wanna save some money you can get away with using water with extra car wash instead of a quick detailer.

Automotive clay is an awesome product.....everyone should have a bar

I think it was the turtle wax rims spray. It cleaned of the dirt and stuff but left the brake dust spots no matter how hard I scrub.

I dont have any experience with the turtle wax and havent heard much about it....i'm guessing its just an average rim cleaner. The more popular over the counter cleaners are probably Eagle On A2Z, Meguiars Hot Rims and Mothers Wheel Mist. A2Z can take of a bunch of stuff....just be careful because its a very powerful cleaner.

P21S Gel Wheel Cleaner is great and is a much safer product but.......its harder to find and it'll cost significantly more (probably twice as much)
