Gas cap loose. Tighten cap, run the car for a week and see if the CEL goes away.

Sure.

You drove the car around for a week? The CEL isn't going to reset until you get a number of computer-recognized "drive cycles" under it's belt.

Is your fuel pump stock? If not, did you make sure not to tear the gasket when installing the new fuel pump?

Rich,

Remember that bad gasoline smell I was always complaining about? That was it. Gasket wasn't torn, but one of the little rubber 'dicks' that are supposed to go through the frame that holds the fuelpump was mashed down. I bet my CEL goes away, too.

Check your vent control valve, I think most gas cap loose would throw a gross leak.

That was the same code I got after the fuel pump install. I'd also bet the CEL goes away after fixing the gasket.

Unhappy I know this is an old thread... but I'm throwing the same code

I'm 90% sure it's not the gas cap.

Anyone want to help a new Impreza owner on the location of the gasket in question?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks. I tightened the bejesus out of the gas cap (like 10 clicks) so if the CEL is still on after a week, I'll know where to look.
