CEL but no codes show
A friend's '02 WRX 5mt throws a cel but when scanned, no codes show.
Mods include:
UP
Tbe
Sti tmic
Cobb ap ver. 1
I was told the light only started coming on after an amp install. Could the way it was wired throw the cel? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

actually... if he's got a v1 AP when did he get the AP? The firmware on the first batch and maybe the second batch does NOT have the ability to read historical codes. This means that if he shuts off the car any time after the CEL was present he won't be able to read it but normal OBDII scanners will. This is the reason why I sent my AP in to get the latest firmware revision which allowed for reading historical codes. What he'll need to do is find someone with a OBDII reader that can clear codes and do not use the AP since it won't read it.
If he clears the CEL by resetting the ECU and then receives the CEL again while driving have him leave the car on and then read the CEL that way it doesn't get "STORED"
Jon
- Regarding the AMP. unless he tapped into a Engine Sensor or something that is monitored by the ECU for his signal wire or power then that would be the only way that this would be the cause of his CEL. The problem with this is that most people that wire up amps generally use the battery for power and the signal wire comes off the headunit and nothing else. It might be coincidence all together regarding the CEL

this is not true since OBDII on the AP is specific for your model year the reason I posted is more likely the problem in not reading the CEL. I had the first AP SN#3 and then sold it to Mike with the latest firmware revision for AP V1

you're right on that aspect jon, but my apv2 doesn't read certain emissions type codes...like purge valve, or purge solenoid, but a regular reader does. Is that normal?

it reads saying no codes available...but vakamon says their reader pulls up the emmissions code. Weird. If it helps any, i have a CEL. But still, says no codes available.
