still loving my KDW's. awesome wet and dry tracktion and you can get them in that size for about $135 a tire mounted and balanced from costco. only problem is you gotta wait a few weeks. i have heard good things about the new federal tires they cary at vakamon. they look pretty solid. you should go check em out. Try the Federal 595. You can get them cheap and they're pretty good tires.

walt, price range would help, also tread rating preferred, use of the aforementioned
tire etc.
all seasons: price- all around utility go with Avon.
That being said, I don't like all-season tires, since we don't got all-seasons here in hawaii. Read up on road noise, as this plays a part in many customer's reviews on good tires. Look at the size of the grooves in the tire tread. Tire rack is good though, they ship tires for like $70, you'll get them in 3-4 days.

My bad, price range is not a real important factor...Well sort if you take into consideration the holidays that are coming up! BUt jus wanna see what tire brands and models are hawaii guys running. thanks for the info though!!

ran a set of Federal 595 RS's.. nice ride on the street, sidewall a bit softer than I care for... good wet traction good dry traction.. that is until you 'track' them.... they heat up FAST and then become greasy ... = lost traction cornering on higher speed course.

They are good for daily driving but they do heat up quickly

Sumitomo HTRZ II's were good tires for street tires with good all around traction (not for heavy rain though)

Kumho 712's about the same sitch with the Sumitomo, but I thought the Sumitomos had better dry traction

Falken AZENIs RT615s,.. currently running these... I LOVE these...firm sidewall (although not as firm as the Bridgestone 070s (but at less than 1/2 the cost the Azenis are awesome))

I've heard good things about the Hankook Ventus R-S2 Z212s as well. supposed to be near 'on par' with the Azeni RT-615s

I get my tires at TireRack most times, but the following shops should be able to help you as well (my perference in order:
1) Pacific Automotive & Performance Center Inc (Talk to Miles or Ken)
1) Vakamon (naturally these guys hook up this community)
2) Redline (Falken tires distributor)

I really like my Bridgestone RE750's

They are very good for daily street driving...spirited driving as well...lasts a long time! I've put on 20K miles on these and they still have plenty of life...

Very quiet, stable, good both wet and dry...haven't tried them on the track yet...but, it should perform pretty well...I like to take corners hard, and they hold with very little squeal if any...

I also like the KDW2's...very aggressive looking tread...When it is time to buy new tires...I would have a difficult time choosing between these two...

I also owned prior to the RE750's..Falken Azenis ST-115's...I liked these at first, worked fine for a while...wet/dry fine...but unlike their threadwear ratings....they did not last very long at all...I was very dissapointed...very affordable tires though...

You can get the RE750's and other Bridgestone tires from Costco...KDW's...can be had at Sam's Club at a very reasonable price...especially in your 225/45/17 size...and they have them in stock the last time I looked...

you can also pick up the FM901's really cheap at Sam's...soft compound on those...
