Bov Broke!!!
OK while driving my date around today...I noticed something funny.
To make a long story short, I was losing boost like a major leak and it was my BOV broken open (thank goodness open and not closed). It's a GFB Hybrid 50/50 set currently at 100% atmospheric. So I was driving the only NA WRX on the island today...I estimate I was getting about 80 HP to the wheels LOL!
Soooooooo here's my problems and observations.
1. By the time I got home I had no time to pull the Intercooler to access the recirc hose that I had capped (pain in the azz to take off the clip) on friday so I put my stock BOV back in and took off the recirc assembly on it so it vents to atmosphere.
2. Because of this...I am now having the idleing problem that everyone has with the Turbo XS BOV until they put in the correct washers. As such I am granny driving until I fix my GFB or buy another BOV. I already got the CEL.
3. The GFB is probably a goner but I'm goner dissassemble it tonight and see if I can get the piston loose. I probably still won't use it though because I am paranoid of that happening again and instead it getting stuck closed!
4. The stock BOV without the recirc assembly is shooting down towards the intake manifold (WRX owners should know where)...will this screw anything up? It should just be moderately hot air but still cooler than the manifold's ambient operating temperature.
5. HEY the stock BOV venting to atmosphere sounds exactly like my GFB but it opens at any engine speed past 2500 RPM rather than 4000 RPM for the GFB (well at least opening enough to be audible).
6. AW....I most likely will put my recirc assembly back on the BOV and run stock on tuesday night after work when I have time to do this.
JUST WANTED TO VENT! THANX!

It was used but I lubed it really good!
I still need to break it open and see what broke or got caught. It seems like the piston is stuck in the release air position. So, what I'm thinking is that it's stuck up in there somewhere. I dunno if I intend to fix it and try again because I don't want this happening again.
Someday I might buy another one but not right now! I gotta save money for my Vegas trip...maybe if I win big I'll buy one in LA on the way back! Autobacs is open yeah?

Not really, the stock valve can't reliably hold more than 18psi before it leaks, which is easily doable with a modded car. Worst case scenario on a stock turbo is you run rich for a split second on shift, which means you'll get backfire especially if you run uncatted. Just don't burn your bumper and it's all good. Eh there's tons of discussions on this already on these boards, it's not worth getting into again.
