Talking Big Mahalos to Paul @ Yimi Sport Tuning in SoCal!!

First and foremost, I'd like to thank Paul Leung from Yimi Sport Tuning for his "Aloha" and generosity, not only is he an awesome tuner, but he is a great guy, easy to work with, and a man of his word and work. His work can stand on its’ own merits!

I first contacted Paul back in April in regards to an issue that I was having with my car. He did not hesitate to share his knowledge with me. From the very start, he was very detailed and elaborate in his reasoning and opinions. Keep in mind- Paul didn't know me, I had no previous services done by him, so therefore he didn't owe me anything, but that didn't stop him from taking time out of 2-3 days a week since April to help me diagnose my car. Of course, within that given time period, there was discussion of HP goals and future modifications. He and his wife planned a vacation to Oahu which was scheduled for August 26th, as they do ritually. He then suggested that since he will be down here on vacation, that he'd check out my car in person and run some logs. He threw out the idea of having me gather a few guys for tuning if there was enough interest and demand.

Fast forward 2 months later, 2 days prior to him arriving on Oahu specifically, I couldn’t gather enough guys with needs in tuning. But that didn't stop him from wanting to meet up to talk “shop talk” with me, let alone, TUNING IT. Paul and I hooked up on Tuesday afternoon, August 28th, at Rad Motorsports to tune my car.

While my car is a "mildly" built WRX, the horsepower and torque numbers weren't big to begin with, so the gains were minimal. As stressed by Paul, what a lot of people fail to understand is that making a peak number on the dyno is probably the easiest part of the job. Anybody who has any clue can do that. The shape and breadth of the powerband on the dyno and then the driveability of the car under all conditions coupled with consistency and reliability is what sets the really good guys apart.

P.S. He even insisted that he ride shotgun for a post-tune ride down to North-South road just to verify that the car ran smoothly.

Paul wants to serve our Subaru community, by providing quality tunes, grand knowledge in Subarus, and great customer service. I am just ONE of his many thousands of satisfied Subaru customers.

Pictured below (I'll POST THE PHOTO SOON) is the dyno sheet. We used my current tune by “Jon Smith” as the baseline which dynoed at 272whp/256wtq @19psi. After Paul's meticulous and detailed adjustments and tuning, the car finished at 285whp/260wtq @19psi.
