Headed to Oahu (if we make our stand-by flight) on the 10th of April for a 5-day visit. Hope to spot some of you guys. I'll make sure to throw the peace/what's up greeting.

peace sign is cool but in hawaii we throw the shaka sign (hangloose sign for some you in the mainland) to identify hawaii i-clubbers. hope to see you around and enjoy your vaction

Thanks for the tips. I'll make sure to keep an eye out for the Scoobies. Just don't be surprised if someone driving a rental throws the shaka.

It's cuz there are so many Japanese tourists that have visited Hawai'i, that the shaka is now a widely known hand symbol in Japan (it's even starting to replace the 2 fingered peace in photos now)

Yeah, folks here on the mainland don't get the difference (both verbally and physically) between "shaka" and "shocker"

"No my mainland friend, shaka is not a pidgin accent, it's what it's called. Hey! You got 2 extra fingers stickin' up!"
