barry, i know you went AS first, that's why they didnt count the mini's times...i was just using the HS then SM scenario as an example...

I think Joey's S2K could do it on the right track. I say this because his suspension and tire pressures aren't tuned at all and I have only ever drove his car one other time on the street (not the same).

R-compounds make a huge difference, obviously, but I think you're selling your skills short, Jay. Not everyone will be able to slap a set of R tires onto an STi and immediately become the fastest Subaru out there.

In the hands of the right driver there are plenty of street cars that could do it. Curtis' car is clearly very well setup, and from what I understand (I'm new here ) he's gone a ton of seat time in that car, so he really, really knows what it's doing.

Having the advantage of auto-xing on the mainland for the past 4 years I've seen a lot more variety of cars. Mark Daddio (the guy who won the Mazda Rev-it-up competition a couple weeks ago) and his completely innocuous-looking SM turbo Neon would probably take Curtis and his 240Z. The 10-sec turbo Eclipse with road race suspension and Hoosiers that I saw at the Philly region would probably take Curtis's 240Z. Etc etc. Is there anyone out here that has the right car and the right talent? Again, I'm new here, so I don't know. Even if I hadn't nicked that stupid cone on my last run, I would have had a 51.0xx, still a full three seconds behind Curtis. I'm used to being near the top of the pack in raw times, but I can't see myself making up three seconds regardless of what I do to the Legacy. Could someone else do it? Perhaps. The last event that I ran against Mark Daddio was two years ago - he had me by 2.5sec on a 50sec course, and that was before he turbo'd the car!

Anyway, enough blathering, I gotta go to bed!

well, ...... I do believe that Mike's WRX (in the finished state) would've have been built well enough to take that 240z at autox ........

That's exactly what I was thinking about the other day. I run 225/50-15 V700s, and without completely re-building the fenders that is as wide as I can go on the Legacy. With the soft stock springs and struts I'll actually rub the rear fender lips (which are rolled), and I have about 3 or 4mm of clearance between the sidewall and the rear strut housings. I might be able to go wider up front, but I've never looked into it - I don't know if I'd want to run different size tires on either end of an AWD car. Anyway, my car weighs about the same as a WRX (curb weight is between a WRX sedan and wagon I think) and has about 200 horsies. Compare that to Curtis' car (2355# curb weight stock, 150hp stock) with what - 255s? 275s? Whatever he's got on there. Them sum tuff physics to overcome! I'll keep trying, of course, but even with the mods soon to come I just don't see myself closing a 3 second gap.
