To beat Curtis, it ain't gonna be with an STI
it can be done though
Best I ever got was #4 OA with my twin turbo 300zx in 1992
rode with him once (this is when I used to get top six all the time)
I was so scared on the first corner braking (this was on the old rwy at JRF) I thought we had already missed the corner and crashed! But to my amazement the 240 actually slowed without losing traction and felt like it hit a brick wall. my 4000lbs Z would have locked the brakes and slid off the track - even with the ABS it still wouldn't make it. And then he cornered it super hard. Every corner was like this. He just thinks hard with the braking and cornering because his car would do it and he knows it. I've seen him beaten all the time. But that was by an astech or a formula ford. But anything that weighs more than 1500lbs and drives itself to the track doesn't have a chance.
I still can't think up a streetable combo that can top his.
Anyone else have ideas?

I think Joey's S2K could do it on the right track. I say this because his suspension and tire pressures aren't tuned at all and I have only ever drove his car one other time on the street (not the same).

) he's gone a ton of seat time in that car, so he really, really knows what it's doing.Having the advantage of auto-xing on the mainland for the past 4 years I've seen a lot more variety of cars. Mark Daddio (the guy who won the Mazda Rev-it-up competition a couple weeks ago) and his completely innocuous-looking SM turbo Neon would probably take Curtis and his 240Z. The 10-sec turbo Eclipse with road race suspension and Hoosiers that I saw at the Philly region would probably take Curtis's 240Z. Etc etc. Is there anyone out here that has the right car and the right talent? Again, I'm new here, so I don't know. Even if I hadn't nicked that stupid cone on my last run, I would have had a 51.0xx, still a full three seconds behind Curtis. I'm used to being near the top of the pack in raw times, but I can't see myself making up three seconds regardless of what I do to the Legacy. Could someone else do it? Perhaps. The last event that I ran against Mark Daddio was two years ago - he had me by 2.5sec on a 50sec course, and that was before he turbo'd the car!
Anyway, enough blathering, I gotta go to bed!

hes' been racing that car here for at least 11 years
that's when I started autocrossing in 1992
except he and a few others never stopped
I just came back last year after a 10 yr hiatus
I was talking about a streetable combo for me to win with
yes regardless of what you do with your legacy, it probably won't be enough to beat curtis
my thought is the same, no matter what I do with my wrx, it won't be enough
trying to think of power to weight and traction to weight
this is one of his advantages
look at his tire size and the weight of his car
divide the two
and then compare that number to the same calculation on any other car (what combo beats that?I don't know yet)
maybe if I had a 10sec 89-92 240 with 275mm tires
