I see tim and russ are on the boards so what did you guys think of auto-x today ? I was pretty happy with my performance but I know I could've hit a 55....and I'm sure when barry checks the boards he'll tell y'all 'bout the mystery cone

Today
Man, today's track was FUN! I just need some corner balancing done to really get running right. During fun runs w/ a passenger to better balance my car I ran a 52.0 clean. Anyone interested in a corner balance day?

I drove like ***, only one clean run (52.817 as I recall). I ran a 50.9xx on my last run, but picked up a cone at the very end (going through the box thingy).
I'm working mids (~2230 - ~0700) right now, so I ran after being up from about 1:30pm Saturday afternoon. Hindsight being 20/20 I should have gone home after work, slept for a few hours, then ran in the afternoon (which is when SM was supposed to run anyway). Oh well....
I also ran into a problem that I've only experienced once before, at a track event - my car won't go into 3rd when cornering. On my 3rd and 4th runs I was finally carrying enough speed into the 2nd half of the course that I wanted to go to 3rd, but for whatever reason it just won't go! I'm sure the corner workers got to hear some sweet gear grinding and once I get to capture my in-car video I'm sure it will be on there.
Last but not least, I had my little Chase Cam set up on the front bumper (in front of the driver side foglight) and it appears to have taken a cone on my 2nd run. Haven't had a chance to look at the video yet, or test the camera to see if it still works. Keeping my fingers crossed. Should be a pretty funny clip on the video.

I thought it was a fast and fun layout. In my case I think the cones won (3 on my second run). After that I decided to slow down in the tight spots, but still open it up in other portions of the track. That at least gave me a clean run with an okay time.
My 4th run would have been a 54.974 if I didn't clip a cone.
All in all I think I could have shave a bit more time, but hey then I wouldn't have the following excuses:
1) Forgot to turn off the AC
2) The mosquito's were biting me
3) I had 3/4 tank of gas
etc..

Woohoo, just got home from work and had a chance to check my email. After driving so poorly in the morning I thought for sure one of the other SM guys would catch me, but I held on to 1st in SM.

russ got the force. he goes fast and barely even uses the tires.
thanks anyways.
you ran well among the stock tire sti's coming in at 2nd out of 4 on stocks. only fran ran faster. we can tell joey "hey, just imagine if we had clean cars? we could cut a second off our time!!!"
haha. just joking joey. so what class are you gonna run in 04?
DIRTY silver sti's rule. b
ps. might have to clean the rims often though as some have been reporting pitting of the paint where the brake dust builds up. but then again it might just be a mainland thing with salt for the snow.
pps. don't forget about pat and his legacy. a hooked up driver with a close to hooked up car. if it isn't already.
