Attn, RallyX people

I know a few of you participated in this past RallyX event. Congrats to you all for being part of that historical moment.

I was wondering what tips you all have for prepping my car. I'd check the more general threads on this subject, but the surface at KRP is unique with the presence of coral and such. Much props to those who represented the Subie camp. It's crazy to see AWD in all it's beauty. On average, the Subies were quicker than most out there (with the exception of one crazy CRX).

Did you damage anything? Did you feel the need for a different suspension setup? Tire selection? Damage protection? Any advice and/or discussion would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

No damage here. Suspension was ok... for now. The surface was awesome the first half of the course (hardpacked dirt and grass), once in the dirt track oval it was really bad. The surface was loose and filled with rocks and stones. After a couple heats it started to rut pretty deep I bottomed out a few times trying to drive faster so I had to slow down.

Better tires are a must. Something with good tread. Running RallyX with RE-11's was greasy, sliding everywhere especially after the water truck sprayed down the course.

I got a front skidplate for piece of mind. Mudflaps... unless ur fine with your car covered in mud. Stock suspension ok. If you are running stiffer springs I think that's fine too as long as it isn't lowering springs that are reducing travel.

This is the part that has me saying NO to Rallying the 2011. That and the rocks/stones flying all over the place. Yes yes, I know I'm a *****! Still, I had a chance to sample the surface, and it wasn't as forgiving as I thought it would be.

Now if I had an older car....

OOOOhhhh yees! In fact, it was almost encouraged towards the end of the course for great photo ops, ha ha! It was almost unavoidable for some, especially a Toyota Cressida and an S14. All in all, great fun, even to watch. The course was a living, breathing thing as it changed forms and temper throughout the day, which made things a lot more interesting.

I'd be scared about bringing a car you drive daily and care about.
You need a balance of high vs stiff, too soft and you bottom out.
Skidplate would be VERY HIGHLY recommended... I hit all kinds of stuff on the bottom of the car.
Tires with lots of sipes (grooves in the tire) is recommended. Winter tires are good, rally tires are awesome.
I'm not sure if I damaged anything, my car did catch air a lot during the event. I have yet to take it all apart and examine... but it drove home ok.
40psi in your tires to avoid debeading, remove ANY loose items in the car.
Be as sideways as you want, though that's usually slower than keeping it on the correct line.

Don't Lift! Don't countersteer too much. Left foot brake and throttle modulation to control a slide or kill understeer. If all else fails clutch kick or clutch in and handbrake to bring the back around.

I know these sound kind of big...but if someone has 18" rims...I might be selling a set of these soon...lots of thread left...who knows...it may work well out there in the bumpy stuff...it will give you more clearance...

i didn't drive my subie, but i did drive cory's during the fun runs. i agree with him, lots of suspension travel with stiffer than stock springs. i don't recommend any cars that are too lowered and wheels with larger sidewalls, along with deep treads are preferred.

Sweet I was leaning toward that one as well because of the price. Any other reason to you chose them over rallyarmor?
