I was waiting to see what my schedule would be like before committing to this. Looks like I'm stuck at work on that day.

What time were you thinking of making the drive up the mtn?
I wanted to try and bring my sti and my wife's forester to add into the mix.
I guess we'll be there in spirit.

Took my kids up (7 and 10yo)

Yeah...they were either affected by the altitude or they played too much...Once we got to the top near the observatory...they fell asleep...I believe it was due to the altitude though...I was even getting a bit sleepy...

I'm not a stranger to altitude having lived in Denver and snowboarded way up there in Breckenridge and Copper Mountain...but Mauna Kea is definitely waaay up there...

Greg, make sure you watch the kids man...it's kind of spooky having everyone fall asleep...

we are planning to go early Saturday morning- i'll be bringing some i-club stickers and goodies for you guys- (well whoever we run into) and then hitting Kona for the famous sunset.

btw, any of you guys ever heard of that swimming pond near volcano? i may be mixed up on location, but either way we will be driving a 4WD tacoma that weekend-

Any word on drive time for Saturday? Myself and a couple other guys will probably head up saddle from Kona side. Perhaps we should meet you at the summit turnoff? Let us know!

Sounds good! We'll keep an eye out for the Tacoma. We should be relatively easy to spot Give a shout in the morning....
