Apparently it's true...
That if you pour enough alcohol on a scorpion it will sting itself to death!

Prohibition, anyone?

Merry Christmas to me! Without warning, the little bastard twitched its tail and tried to hook it's stinger into a its head! SUCCESS! The scorpion continued to try to sting itself. Several stings looked like they penetrated the exoskeleton and did some damage. After about two minutes the scorpion lay lifeless.

They're also saying it's true that EJ20 WRX heads won't fit the USDM STi block.

Chris,
I have heard that you can not put EJ20 heads on the STI block.
Can you put the rumors to rest for us.
If it can be done, Do you know what the compression ratio would be with my WRX heads?
Thanks

Stroker - Sorry nobody really knows for sure. Perhaps we can ask our motor builder, Crawford Performance, and get another opinion.
All I can say is that the dealers/people we have spoken with say that only STI heads will work with the STI block.

??
1. Apparently scorpions will sting themselves to death if they are subjected to alcohol.
*completely unrelated 2nd post in thread*
2. It's being said that you cannot use UDSM EJ20 heads to bolt onto a USDM STi 2.5l block
*completely unrelated subject*
3. I hit 5000 posts. I'm a huge post-*****.

In other news, I got a brand new 2.5L US STI block sitting at home in the garage. After some initial measurements, it looks like it will work
perfectly with the STI-RA heads. Based on the Piston dish and deck height,
it should be somewhere in the 8-9:1 CR range. More accurate measurements to
follow, but for now it looks pretty darn good. Pistons are forged, and deck
is semi-closed. Pictures in a few..
I think this block, with the STI heads and the 20G-8cm turbo will be a
pretty powerful combo. It should all be ready for the dyno day with Clark
in October.

Piston to valve clearance, excessive compression (USDM STi heads have a bigger combustion chamber to mate with the pistons found in the 2.5 STi block).

They do bolt on, but you're going to have higher than desired compression and there may be piston to valve clearance.
Did you clay the piston to check for valve clearance?
Did you cc the heads and figure out compression ratio?
Do you have the specs on the piston dome?
The guys from i-Speed had to replace the USDM STi pistons with custom pistons to get a manageable compression ratio (and they were worried about piston to valve clearance also).

Also, we do not know if people are telling you this, but we have been told be several Subaru Reps and Subaru dealers that the 2.5 STI short block will ONLY work with the 2.5 STi heads. Well, that's not entirely true.
With the help of our engine builder, Crawford Performance, we can now get the new 2.5 STI block to work with USDM WRX heads! We keep the 2.5 STi turbo crank and rods and use special forged Crawford pistons. These Crawford pistons keep the proper compression ratios that the wrx heads need to operate effectively. Without specially designed pistons in place of the STI pistons…the 2.5 STI block will not work with the wrx heads.

Sponaugle knows his stuff too, so I'm not sure who to believe at this point... But I know that i-speed has actually DONE the build up already and I'm sure they wouldn't have replaced the brand new pistons from the shortblock if it wasn't necessary.
I haven't been following this at all since I don't have the cash to even fathom a swap like this (and I'm not sure it would be a good idea given the limited WRX head airflow anyway) but a quick search on NASIOC pulled this up: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...heads+usdm+sti
