Anyone up for an "Experiment" this weekend?

Hey gang!

I'm thinking about doing something crazy and a little buck wild. I am going to try gutting my UP and DP cats to see if it's better to do it this way vs. the "buying the stuff" way.

SO, does anyone wanna help me out with this? I was thinking of buying someone's used stock UP for the first round to see how easy/hard it is to get all that catalyst stuff out of the UP. If it goes smoothly I'll try the DP.

I figure someone'll sell me their old stockUP for like $30 and it'll take another $10 to buy the bits and stuff that I'll need to gut that sucka!

I saw the mod on www.scoobymods.com and was intrigued. I know it sounds ghetto but I'm bored and need something to do!

BTW...I'm gonna do the non-cutting it in half style.

I might also do some of the other mods from the site like...

1. Intake Silencer REmoval
2. Change my interior lights to blue (gonna order the LEDs today)

and I'm also gonna do my Reverse EL guage faces!

I don't think you can do the DP w/out cutting it. I have an extra up-pipe you can use, call me on my cel 347-3388. I'm in town and have the day off today.

When i get my TMO from storage i'll take pics of why it isn't really worth it. Yeah its a cheap mod but one it'll take you at least a day and 1/2 to do the uppipe, and the down pipe just ain't worth it to me but you said your bored so go at it. Another thing was the power delivery wasn't as good compared to a real uppipe, i noticed a big difference when i put a real uppipe vs. the stock gutted. I shoulkd be getting my stuff back soon you can just try my gutted uppipe if you want to wait. LMK

Ha ha ha everyone wants to give me their OEM! What are they currently being used as paperweights?

Here's an idea...what if I cut off the cat and weld a pipe in? Wouldn't that create roughly the same effect as an aftermarket UP? Let's just say I get it done real clean so as not to affect turbulence in the airstream and such. Do you think this would be cool? I'm like 5 years out of practice with the welder but my uncle has one (forget if it's TIG or MIG) and since like 10 people have offered their UP's I have lots of donors to experiment with.

If you weld in a pipe it'll make the inlet to the turbo smaller, that would then defeat the purpose unless you some who that good and can just weld in a pipe in the area where the cat use to be.

Yeah that's exactly what I meant. Weld in a pipe to replace the cat. So cut off the cat and weld a pipe in it's place.

if you were planning to gut your cats, the 3rd one's real easy...all you need is the metal pole from a hydraulic jack and a hammer...once you get one hole through the cat, everything else will fall off easily with a little pounding...but as for the uppipe and the 2nd cat, i'm not too sure...like mario said, it took him a day and half and if you are that bored, then what have you got to lose

Just keep in mind that tampering with a workin catalitic converter is a federal offense. You shouldn't post about breaking the law. You might give I-club a bad name. Next thing you know we'll be known as the law breakers!

I'm just kidding, but I'm pretty sure that it is a federal offense.
